MY SONS FRIEND KILLED THIS MORNING
« on: March 16, 2008, 04:54:06 PM »

My youngest son, Michael, went to a W.E.A.R. race this weekend with several of his friends at Roebling Road near Savannah GA.  They all run several classes including endurance, 600 and superstock.  They all travel together and pit for each other during the races.

Michael called me about noon today to tell me that one of his friends, Roary Partin, was killed this morning during the 600 novice race.  He went into turn one, tucked the front tire and went down.  Two bikes behind him ran over him.

First time I've heard my son cry since he was a child.  Very sad.

Michael had what could have been a very bad accident on his street bike about three years ago.  It scared him bad enough to give up riding on the street and limit his riding to the track.  At the time I thought that was a good idea.  Now, I'm not sure!

So sorry to hear about that Tommy. Our condolences go out to his family, your family, and all his friends. That makes me shudder sometimes, watching these kids trying the things they do today. I hope your son learns from it and gets back on right away though. My thoughts are with ya'll!

Tommy, so sorry.  I pray for strength and comfort for family, friends and fellow racers as they come to grips with this tragedy.

Again, no words are enough at a time like this.  Just know we stand With You as friends and offer our compassion as you overcome this hardship.

Like others who've already posted, certainly my condolences to the family and your son as well. It is very hard to lose friends at a young age. Not that it gets easier ever, but I think with age comes a certain expectancy that these things can and do happen. The deaths of two high school classmates when we were all seniors has stayed with me to this day, whereas the passing of a close but elderly uncle recently has found it's place in the rationale of life less than two weeks later. Perhaps too much philosophy, but I often think of the death of young people as a reminder to us all of how frail and fleeting life can be and what a precious gift it is. Again my sympathies to your son and the young man's family.

Tommy,

Really sorry to hear of the accident and loss of your son's friend.  It seems like these motorcycle races are almost as safe as NASCAR anymore . . . very rarely hear of a death these days.  So, when you do, it's all the harder to deal with, especially if you knew the young man as closely as Michael did.  My condolences to Roary's family, Michael and you.

Sorry Tommy.  Doesn't mean a damn thing when you say it.  But sorry.

They're more resilient than we are when they're that young.  Doesn't really help though.
