Title: Considering trading my FLHXSE3 in.....
Post by: dayne66 on September 24, 2020, 02:46:41 PM
Even though none of the 2020 bikes excite me....I am tired of the issues my bike has been having for the last two seasons.

Most recently it went in on Aug 13 because the compensator was going for the 4th time.....waited over a month for a primary drive chain as they wanted to replace it and the tensioner as they felt it was the root cause. When they got it together they heard other noises...possible from top end or cam chest.....I suspect theses are the noises I have been telling them about for years (before and after the rebuild) and they say are normal. So...they are tearing into it again.

I guess my season ended in August!....and had a two week Okanogan vacation in the Jeep instead of on the bikes.

At another dealer......FLHTKSE blue...reduced price of $49,999cdn......with my FLKXSE3 with 70,000km in trade.....$33,000cdn out the door. That works out to about $20535cdn trade value for my bike. Because it has ESP...they should be giving me a value based on it being in good mechanical condition....right?

Then there is the Indian dealer .............they really seem to like it when people wear FXRG on Indians....hahaha

50km: comp
60km: comp and total engine(did not get a straight answer why not a new engine) and trans rebuild
65km: comp and re-ring and hone due to burning oil
70km: comp, tensioner, chain......and noises that they finally hear

They won't allow anything but stock parts to be installed...so this is going to continue to be a recurring issue.

A new Harley.....I'm pretty much held hostage by there being only one dealer on the Island (also only one Indian dealer).....and the new issues that my local dealer still has their head in the sand about.

Sounds like it's time for the M8 of your choice. That and switching to the Sharkside for me.....well I'll never look back!

Good luck with your process.

At how many kms is it predicted that an M8 will be worn out beyond being able to reliably fix it?   Hopefully more than 50,000km.

Or maybe the dealer service dept is inept? Certainly possible!

Either way....not in a good frame of mind to make a decision today....and need the bike to run well to even consider trading at a dealer other than Harley.

Still has ESP for either 3 or 4 more years.

Dayne, that 2017 Chieftain Elite is a beauty.  It sure looks like your (and my old) '12 ruby, doesn't it?  That bike almost found a home in our garage when it came out as Knoxville had one as well as the Chattanooga dealer.  That color really pops in the sunshine.  Also looks like true duals installed so I'm guessing the stage 2 cams and/or the 116 upgrade?  How many miles on it?

To keep this conversations simple, PM sent.

Stage 3 and only 1000 km.....bought for the dealer's Dad and never registered.

i test drove one of those Indians with the 116 kit and i will say they run good.... not going to bash it, but there a few things that would take some getting use to if one was going to switch brands. sounds like the talent pool isn't very deep at your local HD shop and you dont have many options, thats gotta stink

Dayne 66:  Sorry to hear about your issues with your bike.  I regrettably sold my 2012 CVO STREET GLIDE last October after having a surgery for a double inguinal hernia.  I was pretty much a couch potato for 6 weeks so with the winter approaching I made a hasty decision to sell it.  Very low mileage, less than 10,000 kms.  I was offered 22-23k from some dealers around the Toronto area, but I knew they’d low ball me if I wasn’t buying a new bike, so I decided to sell it on my own.  If your bike is having that many problems than it may be time to move on....I know that M8 CVO’s weren’t without there problems when the 117 first came out and many had sumping issues.  Try and wait it out, I’m sure there will be several dealers with leftovers towards the HD if the year and into next......
Good luck with your decision....

Joe

My 19 mako is a nice upgrade from my 12 cvo RG maple
Upgrade oil pump and fan assist on oil cooler
Seems to run good
The GTS with Android auto and the sena 20 seem to work good together which is a surprise 🤔
I know some dealers in alberta  are trying a little harder .
I will give a thumbs up to Bad lands Harley Davidson in medicine hat

for one, the fairing moves when you turn the bars, i have always rode a shark, so that may not be an issue for you. the one i rode had no heel shifter and my big boot didnt fit under the shifter, bar controls, cable clutch, just lill things like that. then the wind management. im use to my RGU and not sure any bike can match that for the long hauls. every one has to set the bike up to their style/preferences and im sure all could be addressed if you go that direction

Right now I am at 39,527 miles on my 19 CVO road glide.  Great engine.  I like it much more then a twin cam.

Now, I did not know how bad Harley suspension was until I rode a friends Challenger on Friday.  It rode and handled better then my 13 CVO King which has 2K in the suspension.  Much better ride.  H-D really need a new frame and suspension as this one is 11 years old and showing its age badly.

Don't like the inner fairing on Challenger, or its looks as well as the Road Glide but dang it rides much better.

The bike has it's new compensator, new tensioner, and new chain installed......then they heard an engine noise.....tore it down and discovered a "broken cam bolt".......they have most parts in stock and a couple parts are on order.

This is probably the noise I've been telling them about since the rebuild.

They said ESP was sending an inspector....but, they convinced them to not.

Over 6 weeks in the shop so far....

Dayne;  why did they change their mind about the ESP Inspector?   Do they know for sure your engine has sustained serious damage .?   I only used ESP a couple times: voltage regulator and rear tire(road hazard warranty ).  Sad that many dealers try to weasel their way out of a warranty claim when it truly is a factory failure .....

Good luck, hope you get your bike back and do some riding.....winter is approaching..😢

Finally got a call a few days ago.....FLHXSE3 is finally ready to be picked up...been at Barne's since Aug 14.....going down tomorrow.

Worked a deal to trade mine at Mountainview for a new RG Limited in Midnight Blue....they have to get it shipped from Quebec...last one in the country.....should have it in a couple weeks....Barne's said there were NONE left in Canada...hmmmmm?

They're giving me $21,000 for mine with 73,000 km on it.....On the Auto trader they're asking 19,900 to 22,900...I think that's a fair #

It's gotta go.....don't trust it or the workmanship of the work it has received.

Lots of '12 stuff fits the '20.....so I'm keeping some of the add-ons.

Next year should be a much better riding season!

Congrats on finally getting hope for a riding season next year. IMO you picked the best bike available on the market but I am biased on that. LOL Make sure you post up some pix of it when you get it. Not sure what the midnight blue color looks like.

Finally, a conclusion to the story and a happy ending to boot.  Many miles and smiles to you on the new RG Limited.

Confidence in your ride is important, I've had to let a few go for lack of it. :drink:

Good luck with your new bike, I'm partial to the TR myself.

You're gonna love it. It'll be like going from a shovelhead with a 4 spd to an Evo with a 5 spd. More power and much smoother in every aspect, and you'll love the Rushmore upgrades and refinements as well as the GTS system.

Congrats!!!

Big deal. Still a bike and you'll really enjoy it. I'm on my third one and if I can offer a piece of advice as far as windshields go, make sure you have the seat you like before you go trying to change out the windshields.

Sent from my boring Droid phone.

On it's way from Quebec.....maybe a week...Mountainview  will deliver it to The Island and take away the FLHXSE3.

Mountainview will also make arrangements for service...meet at the ferry and give them the bike......meet at the ferry and receive the bike. Don't think Barnes should touch the new one!

Apparently they have quite a few customers on the Island....wonder why?

You must be pumped! I've got a feeling that your heated gear will get a work out this winter. If you get down my way let me know, we'll go for a putt.
Congrats and keep us posted.

Nope. Still en-route from Quebec. Not really missing it yet as I have been supper busy with work! Also waiting for the ESP refund! I hope everyone knows that you can get a pro-rated refund when you cancel it! I think I'll start a new thread to get that out!

Yes, it's pretty much standard procedure across the board. Auto industry is the leader in those. If you trade in with the originating dealer they can even credit you on the spot toward your new purchase rather than you having to wait 6 weeks or so for a check in the mail.
