Unfortunately my green bike was having some mechanical noises that sounded like a bad lifter.
After pulling things apart we found some MAJOR problems.
Time for a total rebuild!

Dante
113 S&S
About 40K miles on it.
I’m amazed it lasted this long. This motor has been abused over the years!
I’m not that hard on my newer bikes. LOL
-
Motor is now getting better!
Soon she will be as healthy as ever!
LOL

Lucky you have the 5 peice crankshaft that's totally rebuildable. Can't get them anywhere that i know of.

Got my engine back yesterday.
Issues on getting parts due to “supply chain issues” and the fact that lots of companies will not ship to CA!
All is good now, ready to install into the frame and finish it off.
Not in a big hurry as I still have the “new” bike and too many “honey do’s “ to take care of.
-
Finally got the bike back together today, did a few heat cycles, took a short ride.
All is well!
I’ll put some break in miles later this week.

Short ride then back on the lift.

Still trying to get my 500 miles break in done!
Rebuilt engine running strong and quiet.
Some small maintenance items taken care of and fine tuning of the carb.
Recent picture was at a friends house and the trailer in the background is for another non-running bike! LOL

First impression for sound and feel on the assembly are good? Hope so. No matter how many times might do one my neck always puckers down between my shoulders just a little bit on first fire. Hope this one gets another 40k of enjoyable abuse. :2vrolijk_21:

Finally got most everything sorted out and went on a pre ride today for next Saturday.
Gas gauge quit working !!!
NOW gotta pull the seat, console, and assorted bits and pieces to check the sending unit.
Gas gauge only has 130k miles on it! :nixweiss:

Gas gauge? What's that? Always just used the odometer.... :huepfenlol2:

Wow, I’d expect more than 40k out of an S&S build.

I may have abused it just a little.
Has to do with the other club riders and “keeping up” .
Had to go with the OD transmission to keep the revs in check.
Tires don’t last long!
Desert heat doesn’t help much either!
I’m surprised it ran this long.
I’m older now and don’t abuse it (much) anymore.

Been working on the S&S powered evo lately. Rain on and off for weeks now has limited my time riding, so now it’s time for some maintenance!
Noticed a little tick with a lifter on warmup over the past few weeks. Replaced the old S&S lifters with new Fueling parts I scored some time ago. Very nice units, nice close fit in the S&S tappet blocks.
They say it will pump a little more oil to the top end with a HP oil pump. Seems to work as advertised.
Yesterday on my “test ride” found a gas leak, bottom of the tank. Tank off, leak repair, clean up some wiring along the frame and back together again.
Today will be in the low 70’s, no rain for a couple of days so I will do some short runs.
I’d forgotten how much fun this bike is to ride compared to the overweight new cvo’s!
It’s got good bottom end power but mid range to red line it really pulls hard.
Fun bike! (JMHO) LOL
