Are the 2014 110's still noisy?
« on: September 28, 2013, 07:44:51 AM »

I haven't heard anyone complaining about the 2014 110 motors having the "they all do it" ticking/clatter/sounds like marbles rattling noise between 2400 and 2800 rpm....did the MOCO change something that fixed the problem? My 2011 O/B SG still does it relentlessly....just wondering if something got changed because I have not heard anyone say anything about it on the new 2014. I would like to get a dealer to at least look at my motor but none around me will touch it because it is the "nature of the beast" and they all do it syndrome. Thanks

Well much of the noise was piston slap, along with valve train .. and yes the noise is still there but being that again you have a new bike until they get some miles on them not much is going to be said. we tuned one nothing crazy at all they did not get a comp bump or cam change so same ole. deal there.

What region do you live where  you cannot find someone to look at your 110??

Mine seems to be less noisy than my 11 RGU 103.  Only 1200 miles so far tho.

GMR, I am in Indiana....the dealer that I purchased it new from went out of business shortly after I bought it.....I have had 2 other dealers ride it and say it is just the way they are...they all do that....same old BS. It doesn't seem like any dealer takes it serious enough to want look into it .....I know they cannot just start pulling it apart but I just cannot believe that something is going to happen at any time. Not a good thing when every time you ride you are worried about whether or not it is going to detonate. It was as quiet as any bike I had previously owned until it got 1500 miles on it and then it started rattling like no tomorrow and has ever since.....that alone says that something changed from new to 1500 miles. Oh well, just wondering if they may have "fixed" this problem that they say doesn't exist.

My 2014 is much quieter than my previous 2010 103".   It very well could be mileage, current ride only has 1000 miles on it.

So you are saying you have a 2014 110 and it has less valve train noise than a 2010 Non CVO 103??

Perhaps having effective cooling of the exhaust valve & guide has finally fixed the sticking issue?  Nothing like a sticking valve to generate some extra slack in the valve train.

Correct.  My non-CVO 103 was pretty noisy.

Wow, after reading all the archived threads on the possible fixes it doesn't seem that any ONE thing is the culprit of the noise....piston slap, hydraulic lifters, changing out this and that :-\.....some good results and some not so good......does anyone know of a reputable dealer in West Central Indiana / East Central Illinois that maybe has a clue as to where to start or at least diagnose a possible cause and fix? It would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a 2013 110. Slight piston noise when cold, normal for forged pistons at times. My bike also has lifter-valve noise but I attribute it to cam differences (higher lift) and the appropiate spring pressure needed with said cam. Anyone who has went to an open air cleaner like the CVO's have can tell you that valve train noise will be amplified. A simple fix that I found to minimize mechanical sound with my VERY noisy 95" 6hg Woods Cammed bike was earplugs, can still hear good, it just gets rid of annoying noises. Doesn't work with the wife though. :(

I cannot speak for the 2014 110 engine but I know my 2013 110 is a lot quieter than my 2012 103 was. That 103 sounded like a diesel at most any RPM.

My 110 is quieter, cooler and gets better gas mileage than the 103, not to mention more powerful and smoother.
