FLHRSE6 Turbo
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:12:54 AM »

I'm hopeful  to get my bike back in the next 6 weeks as it was picked up yesterday for the overhaul.  I'm sticking with the 110 cases, cylinders and heads (with work of course).  The crank is getting done by Hoband, a HPI 55mm TBI, 5.3 injectors, SE pistons, SE roller rockers, T Man cams, S&S lifters, H-beam rods, scorpion hydraulic clutch, thundermax and an aerocharger w/8 lbs boost.  I'm targeting 91 pump gas or I'd go more boost.  I tried the turbo out before doing the bike because it was an easy install with a base tune with an included PC V and auto tune (which I will sell both).  It was really great on the stock 110" so I'm hopeful this will be really great.

Crummy iPhone picture of turbo charger installed:

Should be a Blast! :2vrolijk_21:

I originally got the '09 SERG with the intention of putting on the Trask kit, but decided to go with just a little motor. I got to thinking about the heat (live in FLA)

It's the v53. According to aerocharger it's good to 250 hp. It's a variable vane turbo.

I'm very familiar with the setups. Back in the day, when Jim Zekala owned 1st. Choice, I did prolly 2 dozen or so. I supplied him and others with "Twin Cam" low compression pistons I had made by JE, and also my ported heads.
Still have some customers riding.

16 lbs. Never hurt the blower, except 1 time when it spun the rear tire on the drum. Went to 28 lbs, knocked the rear piston out, and ruined the Aerocharger.  >:(

OK-although Dave is tearing the motor down for a complete rebuild he wanted to do some baseline runs with a decent tune just to get an idea.  The bike with 5 lbs of boost made 132.72 hp and 138.82 lb / ft of torque.  It made a 135 lb / ft at 3k rpms.  He's going to do a baseline run with the 8 lb spring because that is ultimately going to be the boost.  That's probably 60 rw lb / ft of torque and the HP without turbo I don't know.  HD advertises the CVO RK at 115 lb /ft at the crank.

The heads are back from Baisly (mine will be cores), he has picked S&S 635 HO cam.

I am expecting a beast to come back to me when the spring comes.

I spoke with these guys and the cost on the unit is on par with other systems. HUGE lack of real testing with anything other than stock cams. I would like to try one . Dave will tune it well I am not sure the 635 cam is the right choice with a turbo though. Even after you run it without swapping in another cam no way to know for sure. I think the ex timing on that cam may hurt overall power with the turbo.  Looking forward to seeing the results. My testing has been with the trask system and that system smaller cams work better than cams with late timing or larger ex timing. But that is not the same kind of turbo so you may knock it out the park!!

I have to hit Dave up for the rest of the parts list, pistons, rockers, etc, and I'll post it up.  I have a lot of faith in the guy that he'll get it done right at the end of the day and he is very excited to try the turbo build.
