As I was going through all the pics over the years, it turned out to be a not only a history of my trips, but a history of my receeding hairline. It was nice to see that at one time, yes, I did have hair,....LOL!!!!
I've made an observation...the last decade or so all of my riding buddies have lost hair...about the same time back then California legislated in a helmet law...therefore could it be that the helmets are causing our hair loss. :-\ I think I'll apply for a government loan to study this and will be looking for volunteers for two control groups :2cr_01: and :2vrolijk_02: Doc
Have to agree Mark has "won" this thread! With or with out hair! :huepfenlol2: :nixweiss:

Thanks Mr D, he was a great guy in my book. This picture isn't exactly at a famous locale, don't even know where he was when he took it but it was on that same trip. I can't tell you how many years I've looked at this one and didn't see the cool thing about it. (aside from the 38 knuck) It wasn't until after he had passed that I was looking at this one again and noticed the American flag he had put on the top of the tent. One more of the things I didn't appreciate about my dad until he was gone......
Does this count? It is in front of my house.

who owns the crimson/slate CUSE in the middle of photo? what wheels on his scoot? any photo's?I believe this is the bike you're speaking of..
Update on the Performance Machine Wheels I'm getting...
Wheels (18x3.5 front and 16x3.5 rear), matching front rotors, matching rear pulley, PM Chrome Brake calipers, four piston, for both front and rear, Metzler tires, and Lyndal pads are in house at HogPro. The ONLY part missing is the matching rear rotor, and it looks like that's going to be a little while longer.
I told Phil just to ship me everything he has...I'll just mount the stock rotor for the rear, use the brake pads that come on the PM calipers (EBC), and then when I get the new floating rotor for the rear, pull the wheel back off and stick it on and change the pads to the Lyndals so they'll mate up with the new rotor. New stainless rear brake line is coming as well...necessary for the PM rear caliper, and a good opportunity to get rid of the POS black one on the bike now.
Anybody see any drawbacks to that approach?
Oh, a chrome lower belt guard is going on too... :2vrolijk_21: Can't have all that other stealth chrome lonesome back there.
Hopefully, it will all ship by Friday...

"Post a photo of your bike at a location everyone will recognize. Could be scenic, could be a movie location or in front of a famous building or sign. Just something where you don't have to explain the location. Kind of a CVO travelogue to famous places."
Cyril's photo certainly classifies in the "scenic" category, and perhaps the young lady is recognizable by a large group of folks and it's just me that is out of it.
I guess we'll let the photo stay.

Mark, you're one of the many folks on this forum I would really like to meet. Actually, I would love to take the ride like a pro course you teach. Recently the Discovery channel (I think) did a show about this place called "Cafe Racer". It discussed in length about the conflict between the scooter guys and cafe racers in the 70's and how today the cafe racer is the hottest trend in bike building. I hope I'm not getting this screwed up and will post the show when I can find it on-line. Doc

I started this thread with a photo of JC's bike by the Golden Gate bridge. Just thought it would be a cool concept. I too think some folks have posted some questionable shots but it's still cool to see everyone's bike. The ideal post would be a shot of a bike and no text. It should be obvious by the photo.
Have I ever told you you have waaaaaay too much time on your hands?Nah.. that was a quickie.. if he had a lot of time on his hands, he would have used photoshop and it would have been seemless, just as if he was really there.
Are you implying that I didn't actually RIDE to the forbidden City?
All right!! Let's clear up this misconception of "famous place"
That would be where ever MY scoot happens to be when the mood strikes me to snap a picture of it.
That was easy wasn't it?

Oh! It's famous, now let's see who can tell me why!
Much as I like the photo threads on single bikes, wanted to get a thread started where all bikes could participate. JC's photo of his scoot above the Golden Gate gave me an idea.
Post a photo of your bike at a location everyone will recognize. Could be scenic, could be a movie location or in front of a famous building or sign. Just something where you don't have to explain the location. Kind of a CVO travelogue to famous places.
Hoist's garage would qualify as a nationally famous building.
I'll start by reposting JC's photo and one of my own.
Wrongway,
I started this thread and I reiterated what I hoped it was for a few pages ago. While I like your scoot, the photo looks like the back of any industrial building in the US (or anywhere else on the planet). If we have to guess where it is and you have to give us obscure clues, perhaps you want to start a thread that is titled "Where's Waldo?" (if Waldo is the name of your bike) and post it there.
If you look at the first photo I started the thread with, if was of JC's bike next to some obscure bridge in a city no one knows the name of. Hope you're getting the gist here.
Let's see you in front of Jay Leno's garage! Oh, I forgot, this is your thread, so I have removed the picture that offends you!
Buy Early,
I think you starting this thread was a cool idea. I agree with JC that some have "missed the mark" on the whole purpose of it... The term "famous" would indicate that it is in fact recognizable and therefore there should be no need to state where your scoot is parked. Thankfully the fog cleared so we could view that familiar looking bridge in your 1st post! Having said that, I realize that my 2nd post (#336) on this thread stretched the rules (famous locale) a bit with my pic of my wife and P.M., but hopefully everyone can appreciate my excitement with accomplishing a mighty task. ;D
This is a fun thread and it's a hoot seeing all the cool places members have travelled on their bikes. :2vrolijk_21:
In the spirit that this thread was started, I submit another "photo of my scoot at famous local" (with my better half), although I believe there has already been a few with the same backdrop.
Thanks for starting this thread 1-1/2 years ago for everyone's enjoyment!
Griz,
Thanks for the great post. In all honesty, people can post anything they want in this thread. I just thought it would be cool to see our bikes in front of some of the great places on earth (wish the European, Australian and Asian members would step it up a bit). If someone thinks that place is Jay Leno's garage, I'm cool with that. Just don't make me guess and feel like a fool if I don't "get it".
I think it would be cool if someone posted a photo of their bike with nothing but clouds in the background and said it was the Golden Gate back there covered in fog. I'd be cool with that, they were there. Just don't make me guess what's in the fog. I work hard enough all day guessing what people want and I just want to see photos of cool bikes (even with people on them) in cool locations.
Thanks for sharing your travels!
Yep, keys........was very nice when we were there!

After re-reading Buy Early's post, I think I figured it out... Buy Early is actually showing a second pic of Paul's bike.
Now I think I will take Buy Early's advise and read Paul's other "must read" post.
Great looking Krypto you have there Paul.
PS - I'm still wondering about the speaker boxes though... Did it come that way or did you have them custom painted? Just wondering as possibly the ones shipped overseas may be different than the ones shipped on this side of the Atlantic??? :nixweiss:

Post a photo of your bike at a location everyone will recognize. Could be scenic, could be a movie location or in front of a famous building or sign. Just something where you don't have to explain the location. Kind of a CVO travelogue to famous places.

In 2011 a couple buddies and I rode the skinny, sometimes scary :o, road to the top of Mt Evans in Colorado! They were saying that that was the highest paved road in the country then! Guess they are #2 now?nope, Mt Evans still wins. 14,130'. I was just up there about 6 weeks ago
When we got to the top of Mt Evans I hopped off my bike, grabbed my camera and took off to take a picture and in about 10 brisk steps realized how thin the air was! Had to slow down a little. One of my friends got a headache and felt a little ill. Got a touch of altitude sickness I guess! we saw some good size rain showers off in the distance so I was ready to get off there before we had to ride back down in rain! Don't think that would be too good. Glad we did it but doubt I'd go back. Did you see any Big Horn Sheep up there? We saw one.I know I :jack: here but certainly am not the first one. The day we were there it was cold and rainy off and on. I did not plan for that as it was 90* when we left my cousin's house that morning. We did see some of the sheep. Pretty close to the truck actually. I have no clue what they survive on as there's not much up there.

How is the back doing on long days like that?
Had a series of epidural injections in my back this past May that so far have really helped. My biggest problem is my A-Fib being out in the sun all day. When I ride any distance, I stop every 40-50 miles, drink LOTS of water, where cooldanans keep myself covered in Sunblock, long sleeve white shirts etc etc. It's a once in a while thing these days but I'm not quitting any time soon.
Thanks for the concern

If you remember, the road ends at 14130 and then there is another 110ft to climb to the actual peak top. At least that's my story and I am sticking to it.I have a pix of that geo plate somewhere on the top of that uppermost boulder.

Love that ride down to Key West, that is where I should be the next couple few months.
My old scoot in Key west.A good story goes with this pic.As we pulled up and got off the bike a local offered to take our pic with our camera. As soon as I went to hand him the camera a police car comes flying up and turns his lights on and the cop jumps out of the car.I thought I was going to see the inside of their jail for being somewhere I wasn't supposed to be.All of a sudden he starts bitching at the guy to leave the tourists alone or he is going to arrest him. Here the guy had a great plan to get back far enough to take the picture and then he would run off with your camera!I am really glad I didn't have to run him down with the Heritage!
So, did the cop end up taking the picture? The suspense is killing me! ;DGood one. But, not as funny as his joke about catching the guy on the Heritage. har. spyder

Lolo River....Hwy 12
Rode out to Idaho this year just to ride Hwy 12. Couldn't recommend it enough. Most incredible day I've ever spent on a bike. We rode it both ways. Spent the night before at Lochsa Lodge, rode all the way to Lewiston/Clarkston, dipped our wheels into Washington and rode Hwy 12 back all the way to Missoula. Had a great steak dinner that evening to celebrate. It's a must ride for any serious traveler!I have rode Beartooth Pass a couple times. Where does 12 start and end for those curves? Sure sounds like a must do. I love Bearthooth.
I have rode Beartooth Pass a couple times. Where does 12 start and end for those curves? Sure sounds like a must do. I love Bearthooth.
There are actually 2 99 mile curve signs. The one you see going west on 12 is just west of Lolo Pass a few miles from the MT/ID border. The one you see coming east on 12 is just outside of Kooskia, ID. The entire trip from Missoula, MT to Lewiston/Clarkston is absolutely fantastic. We rode it both ways and I would seriously consider going out there again and riding it several more times. There are several more fantastic roads near there. The Snake River Canyon road is supposed to be great and the road from Missoula to Boise is supposed to be killer. Beautiful country!
Thanks for the information. I am really looking at riding out west this coming Summer and doing a little bit of Sturgis on the way home. We have rode a lot of WY and CO and SD on previous trips and only a little of MT. We have talked about riding to Glacier several times and that area, I love the rockies, and they are so much better on a bike.
One thing is for certain... Once you ride through Glacier you won't stop talking about it!
I'll be back there in July 2015 and so looking forward to riding the Going To The Sun Hwy. once again.
Enjoy your trip and ride safe.
One thing is for certain... Once you ride through Glacier you won't stop talking about it!I have drove through Glacier on Going to The Sun hwy. Loved it so I am sure it is much better on a bike, just as Beartooth pass was, the band lands were and so on.

We are going back that way this summer. Gonna start & end a 7 day trip thru the Canadian Rockies in Columbia Falls, Mt. On the last day gonna ride the GTSR W to E and rather than drop down to Hwy 2 for the E to W trip, we're gonna u-turn at the gate and ride it back E to W. That's how great it is!!!!
Trip routing tip for 2K... When you're in the BC Rockies I suggest you plan to ride Trans Canada Hwy between Spences Bridge and Hope through the Fraser River Valley. Without a doubt, after riding through all 10 Provinces and all 48 lower States on amazingly scenic roads, the road through Fraser River Valley still ranks as my #1 all-time favourite to ride.
:2vrolijk_21:
I haven't ridden it since 2004, but I imagine it is every bit as gorgeous as I remember it. Looking forward to riding it again in July 2015.
How 'bout some pictures of that route?

Thanks for the tip Griz, also you just ruined a well planned trip :bigcry: :bigcry: Just Rubbin, gonna have to reroute bout 150 miles to include that section. Without question, we gonna do it, most likely the last trip to that area and when someone FROM Canada says that is the BEST we have.......only a fool don't listen. THANKS!!! :znotworthy:
You must have road through Cash Creek and 100 Mile House? Spent time all around that territory some years back.
Postcard views for sure.
I feel spoiled.....I used to run the Fraser Canyon 2-3 times a month for 6 months riding to work. Spring to fall I rode.....winters I flew...some wicked winter weather along that route! Another route to not miss on a Western Canada trip is HWY 99 from the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal (after a few days of riding beautiful Vancouver Island) up through Whistler...then it gets quiet and remote....through Pemberton and Lilooet coming out a 1/2 hr north of Cache Creek.
You definitely are spoiled!I'd have to check a map and dig into memory for your optional routes...but, #5 is the Coquahala...2 and 3 lane slab with minimal scenery or places to stop.
I've been told many times that I really missed out by not riding #99 in '04. So in July 2015 our tour will take us from Kamloops south on #5 to Hope, then north on #1 through Fraser River Valley past Cashe Creek to pick up #99 west to Whistler and down to Vancouver.
We just haven't decided if we should stay on #1 all the way to #99 or take the shorter route from Lytton up #12 to Lillooet, then west on #99?
Your advise on this would be greatly appreciated.
PS - Sorry to the rest for being a tad off topic in this thread, but the places we've been speaking about are ALL famous locales, and I promise to post pictures of my scoot there, once I get there.

Last week in Virginia City NV, we were trying to find Hilmar CA. 110Mofo his wife Paula, and Rooster. What's that on your trailer hitch? A bumper? Solar panel? Rototiller?
Looks loaded down to me, that might be dangerous.Looks can be deceiving ;) The top bag only had rain gear. the bag on the back had jeans and t-shirts. We rode in a lot of wind (head winds and cross winds) and it was fine.

That picture looks like a oil painting from an art gallery :2vrolijk_21: BOSTONBOY

Yup.. looks like someone went at it with some effects software .. maybe HDR or perhaps some Photoshop.

Nope just Harley's, sunshine and open roads. What more could you ask for!
You should see it in the high resolution, I think we had 125 bikes, our downtown is amazing, and then with the clouds it just added that pop. I have this pic on several of my pc screens.
Dad rode it in 1940 on a 38 knuck. No heated seat, grips, chaps, just a great guy on a great machine!
Very warm this weekend....Paint looks orange in one pic & red in the other. That water bottle came in handy, I bet. :sunny: :xyxthumbs: har. spyder
No Sturgis photos this year?

Yellowstone National Park in July 2015
Not really "Famous", but a landmark nevertheless.
Taken yesterday on the east side of Lake Okeechobee:

At least the bike certainly counts for being famous! :2vrolijk_21:
Indian bar that is now shut down in Scenic SD this is this year Sturgis. I have a picture earlier in the thread of my 09 SERG here when the bar was still open, Sturgis 2010.
Is that the same place that they have an outdoor jail in town? The town was just outside of sturgis.
No, Scenic is on hwy 44 east of Rapid City, just west of Bad Lands National park.

Hey Dave, I think it is. Just googled it and saw that jail. Just a couple of doors down from that saloon. Funny thing....When I was there with about 10 riding buddies we were going to throw one of our buddies in the jail, lock it up, give him a couple of beers and ride out of town. Of course, in due time, we would have returned. Neat town.Well, what thru me was the just out side of Sturgis comment as its about 70 miles or more away from Sturgis. That is defiantly the town. Been there many times. I really miss the Bar and Indian Taco stand not being open any more. Loved the dirt floor bar!

Yeah, I remember having a few beers there myself and a big helpin' of baked beans. Made some memories. Didn't realize it was so far away from Sturgis. The whole town sold in '11 for 799,000.

I remember reading that in the news. The bar was open in 2010, as I sure remember being there and having a few beers. Brought a few people who had never been there. I was back to Sturgis in 14 and went out there to ride the bad lands and have a beer, and the bar was closed. Checked again this year to see if by chance it re opened, and it did not.
Looks to be open in '09. Road has been paved since.

No, I'm not a real man! ;) Those days are past for me. I don't care for 3,000 miles(each way) of interstate highway anyway. We shipped the bike out to Reno. It cost less and saved our vacation time that way too. We did almost 2,000 miles on the trip. Left Reno and headed up toward Oregon and back down the Pacific Coast Highway, to Eureka, Avenue of the Giants, Napa, San Francisco, Monterey, Big Sur, Fresno, Yosemite, across Tioga Pass, around Lake Tahoe, and back to Reno.
Great roads out there! Leaving Eureka there was about 35 miles of continuous Tail of the Dragon road (maybe tighter) without let up. Metal scraping two up and loaded= fun as $&#*!!!!!

That is something on my bucket list as well Dave. So tell me is that bald eagle on the windowsill above you live or memorex? Sure looks real. If so, what timing eh?Its part of the painted mural on the wall. If you look there is also a girl in a flat bed ford slowing down to take a look at me. Also a couple in the upper right window.
Zion National Park in Utah. One of the most beautifully diverse and scenic places I’ve ever been. I’ve ridden through it 3 times now. Each time it has been magnificent. Bryce Canyon is nearby too.Just loved Zion two weeks ago, from TN on the bike. This is visitor center parking lot at Zion. We also did Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef.

Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park. Weather was a bit chillier than the weather guy predicted. Trip cut short due to all the gas stations running dry.
