With all the griping about the seat fix not being compatible with saddle bag guards, I thought I'd ask ––
Anyone with a SESG switched to saddle bag guards? Pics?

Just was at the dealer today wondering the same thing. Will the SEUC saddle bag guards work on the SESG? I know the SEUC does not have extended bags like ours do but has anyone looked into them?

Oh no, say it isn't so!

Simply doesn't make sense IMHO to disrupt the beautiful lines of a gorgeous paint job on such a fantastic looking SE model with the clutter of saddlebag guard rails.

Agreed,but heaven forbid you set it down or park too close in downtown Sturgis. The SEUC guards are very subtle in appearance.

We are definitely going to put rear engine guards on the sesg, don't know about saddlebag guards with the taillights/filler strip the way it is.

A friend of mine wanted the protection for her special painted saddlebags without the rail and had custom made rails installed... Not a great picture (only one I have) but if you look close you'll see the extra rail which runs along under the bags and sticks out slightly further just in case the bike is dropped. They are hardly noticed by most.

Don't know, but might work for you as well???

They will fit on a SESG. Here's a pic of my wife's 09 Street Glide with the 10 SESG streatched saddle bags and 10 SESG fender. Nothing different from the 10 SESG.....they fit.

Like Grizzly, I think the bars do take away from the clean look.....but then so does adding a taller windshield from the stock 4". Some people (those who are newer at riding a bagger or for those who are shorter and barely reach the ground) probably should have the crash bars. I know they've saved my wife's paint several times already. And because they hit on the bottom end of the roll of the crash bar, it doesn't even show on the crash bars unless you're laying on your back on the ground.

She hasn't dropped it since we put the streatched bags on so can't say for sure. But we did lean it over pretty far and it looks like the crash bar will still hit first.

Maybe some are confusing the different "saddlebag guards". The type JCZ posted pics of are the basic style that I think works well with any bagger, without detracting from the appearance of the bags. The full Ultra style with double rails running around the bag is a different matter, and I think those would detract from the appearance and theme of the SESG.

There are two versions of what I call the rear crash bar (after all, it doesn't just protect the saddlebags, it also can provide some protection for your passenger's leg in a lay down), the standard style and the "comfort" style that is angled down across the top for more leg clearance. I put the comfort version on my SEEG several years back, and it doesn't detract at all from the original style of the bike. BTW, if you check out the catalog you will find that both bars will fit the SG and SESG, but they will require some other parts to make them work. Those are listed in the catalog, and have to do with things like antenna mounts, etc. So before buying the bar, check out the entire description and installation sheet which you can download from the online catalog page.

Yeah, I believe those are called Rear "engine guards", and saddlebag guards wrap around the side & rear of the bag

The SEUC rear crash bars are not saddlebag wrap style guards. I am admittedly nervous as this is my first bagger so I think I should try them out for a season or two to get comfortable on it versus my bar bike. Plus I can hang my diet pepsi off of it also it looks like!

O.K.! I prefer mine in the bottle with a screw on cap while the wife prefers hers in a can just two degrees above frozen.

Oh, and you'll notice that she has two drink holders on her bike.....one for me and one for her. She carries my stuff for me too.

I like mine. I got them to carry the black front guard (with lowers) into the rear of the bike. I agree it is a small amount of insurance - I would be on edge if I let friends "try her out" without them on. These are the "Comfort Profile" rears in black. Disregard the state of assembly, I feel like someone has dropped by while the house is a mess

FYI ... can't get the "comfort profile" in black from the MoCo (dunno why) so I sent mine out to powdercoat to match.

TIF......did you consider getting your front and rear crash bars done in black chrome? I think the black chrome (the exhaust too) would look really nice on the spiced rum.

I just saw the black chrome for the first time, at the Autorama a couple of weeks ago. Very classy looking on the blacked out look.

I saw a set of wheels done in black chrome. Certainly a different look. Probably just me but I kept wanting to get the Mother's Chrome Polish out and get the dirt off

Sticking with the richness of the gloss black for now ... if I ever change my wheels, who knows? I might just make the switch.

Thanks for pics. Did you have to use the antenna relocation kit with the Comfort Profile Rear Guards? I can't seem to locate the part number from HD Catalog for the kit on line.

Negative ... no relo kit required.
On the SESG (as opposed to the "other" Street Glide

) the antenna bolts to the fender support struts, not the saddlebag support rails.

I ordered and just recived a set of the Chrome saddlebag guards in the mail. Question: Is it only the loop portion that's chrome? The piece which bolts into the loop (saddlebag support) is black and not chrome. Is this right or is the support also supposed to be chrome? Sorry for the dumb question, but i can't find any photos that show the support.

Got 'em installed and they look fine. I also bought the saddlebag guard bags (right side has the bag and the left is waterbottle holder).

All that said and done, the engineer in me says the geometry doesn't quite pass the test and I wonder if they really will "guard" the saddle bags...especially the CVO stretched bags. God forbid I ever find myself in a position to see them tested - so I'm happy to be left guessing for the rest of a very long life rather than see that questioned answered in person.

3 years agao I did drop a Softail going around a turn/bend. To this day, I know my leg would have been pinned had it not been for the front guard (no saddlebag guards though) - the difference between riding an ambulance and walking away.
