Oil leak with only 780 miles on the bike!
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:36:22 PM »

:(Looks like I'll be dropping my bike off for warranty work with only 750 miles on her.  I've got oil showing up on the pipe and rocker box, maybe coming from the oil pressure area. Had a great ride yesterday putting about 200 miles on her.  Love the way she rides!!!

That is sad. I hope it is just something simple. Good luck and let us know what they have to do to it.

A hose clamp not properly crimped, I'll bet....   :2vrolijk_21:

Is it coming from the air cleaner?  They do that sometimes if oil slightly overfilled.  My friend keeps his SEUC about 1/2 quart low for that very reason.

No, I don't think its coming from the air cleaner as it is on the front side of the front pipe and on the rocker box.....maybe from oil cooler?? Will know tomorrow!

I noticed a leak at mile 137 on my Limited.  Turned out to be a bad factory assembly of the primary.  The o-ring to the starter was 1/2 gone, not installed correctly.  On top of it, they found the compensator was looking shot (the new SE version) not having been installed correctly either.  Their comment -- instead of looking like it has 137 miles on it, it looks more like its got 137k miles on it.

Took the opportunity to have the inner primary upgraded to chrome on their labor and haven't had an issues since.

Hope the leak is something simple and you can come out of it ahead.

Sorry to hear about the oil leak. I've got almost 500 miles and so far, (knock on wood), no problems. I want to ride more, but the weather isn't helping!

I had a leak on a 2010 CVO Streetglide. Bike was new. Rode it home from dealer, parked it in my garage and the next day there was a small puddle under the oil cooler. Guess what.....the oil filter was loose. I just hand cranked it tight then gave it an extra 1/4 turn with the filter wrench. NO MORE LEAK!!!!!
Check yours.

According to the shop, it had a defective seal on the oil filter installed at the factory.  Anyway, glad its nothing major. Got a free oil change out of it. They also found a loose ground and found a crack in the right rear light, so they ordered me a new one.  I'm not upset.....glad to get the bug worked out before spring gets here.

If I'm going to have some kind of issue with the bike......I'm wanting one like that.  Glad it was an easy fix and glad they noticed the other things for you, too. :2vrolijk_21:
