Brake cleaner and tooth brush or detail brush Jock don't know what could have caused that.

Jock, at least from what the picture seems to indicate it does look to be topical on the powder coat and not corrosion through it.

Looks to me that you're getting blow bye from the plug! Is it tight? That is not right, I'd be willing to bet your plug is loose.
Check it out...

Good Point...it may have been, I had the plugs replaced while my heel/toe shifter was broken...did not think to ask of the condition during replacement...

As for the brake cleaner, it did not make much difference...

Jock, there is a also a touch up paint available for the silver powder coat.  Can be had over the HD parts counter.

Look closely at your picture, on the right side of spark plug down in the spark plug hole. You can see the blow by compared to the left side of the hole. One of my compression releases was a little loose and was leaking last year. Thats exactly what it looked like. I used a cleaner/degreaser spray to remove it. I forgot what brand I used though. If I run across it I'll post it.

Good luck,

Grover

You might try a product called "Pig Spit".  It is sold at our local HD.  It does a great job of making the silver on the engine look new.  Not sure if it will take the stain off, but it's worth a try.  Even if it doesn't, use this product after the stain is gone, and it will keep it looking new and help keep it from getting more stains.  i used it on the area between the engine and tranny, which has some oil residue, and it cleaned it right up.  Good luck. I think you will like the way the silver looks after you use it. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I agree with hogheritage04, I have used Pig Spit for several years it works great on the black on the motor and lasts longer than you would think.

I'll have to look into Pit Spit.....never heard of it.  I've always used WD-40 to remove the stain between the engine and transmission on these silver powdercoat engines.  Works real good.

Wow...never heard that one before...

I simply apply a little to a shop towel and gently wipe across the stain.  Good as new.
