I've had both the HD and the J&M. The J&M rusted out where the set-screw was, they offered to replace, no charge. I took credit and bought a HD. Both worked for reception and they told me they corrected the metal/rubber deal for no rust in future. I would have been glad to use the updated J&M but the rep was a dick, I decided no way and bought the HD one.

I have heard that an older 300Z antenna works well.

I use JM antennas for years and had no issues. Even their hidden antennas
