Title: 117 Engine question.
Post by: Road G on March 18, 2021, 02:59:19 PM
I bought a new CVO Road Glide and as most know it has a 117 engine. My question is, do the CVO engines have anything special inside? I mean are there better cams or so on that make it a better engine that say a stock 114? I assume that it is just a stock 117 engine, but really cannot find any data on the subject. Thanks for any help with info.

The 117 CVO engine uses a different cam than the 114.  It has a bit more low end torque.  CVO is a black granite color, non CVO is black.

Other than that they are pretty much the same.

To add to what Dave said, the 114 /117 CVOs have one extra plate in the clutch and more amp output from the charging system.  Now that 114's are standard in other models I'm not sure what carried over from my 17' 114ci CVO.
