New TV
« on: March 19, 2021, 06:49:30 PM »

Well guys, just traded in my '12 RAM 3500 DRW for a new 2021 Ford F-350 King Ranch DRW.

I'll be getting it next Tuesday after they do the spray in bed liner and paint finish prep etc.

Not my favorite Ford color, but I can live with it.  These things are far and few between around here and I didn't want to drive 500 miles to get one.

This new 6.7L Power Stroke with their 10 speed trans, runs very nicely indeed... :)  It should be more than enough to get my 43' Raptor toy hauler moving.

Still haven't done anything to host my pictures yet, so one at a time will do just fine for now.

I do REALLY LOVE the King Ranch interiors!

I'll post more pictures next week.

Congratulations Dan.
Does Ford's new 10 speed act as an overdrive or is 10th pretty much the same final as the 6 speed?

Very nice. What prompted the new purchase?

The '12 RAM 3500 DRW got us into the RV life style to see how we would like it.  So far we love it.  That said, the '12 RAM was way short on towing capacity of our toy hauler.  Our combined total truck/toy hauler with two Harleys was just over 28k#.  Our RAM has a capacity of around 23k#.  But per axle weight/rating, we were under by just a couple hundred pounds.  But writing as they say is on the wall.  Sometime I will need to stop the rig in a panic and end up blowing right through the hazard, not a good thing to think about.

All of the big three have a capacity of over 33k# total and that makes me feel a bit better.  The Ford F350 is leading in power/torque of the big three and I really do love the interior of the King Ranch.  At this point in our live we should not do without something that makes us happy, as long as we can afford it.  Don't get me wrong, I really want to leave our kid and his family some money etc when we're gone, but to not have something nicer now to enjoy it just to leave him more money afterwards, is not in our game plan currently... :)  The '13 Raptor toy hauler is very nice and we do not plan on upgrading it soon or possibly never.

The Boardtrack is complete now.  I just added a few strategically placed exhaust wraps, on both sides of the oil tank and over the front oil filter.  I'll post some pictures on my older post of the Boardtrack bike soon.  I am taking it to the State Police Troop C April 6th for its inspection.  I guess they are really looking for stolen goods etc rather than it being road worthy per se.  I should have it licensed soon and on the road.  Then put it up for sale and get working on the Harley powered car project.

Hope you and Kathy stay safe and healthy, take care!

Nice. Can’t wait to see the finished pictures of the board tracker. So far so good. Are you and Linda still thinking of coming up this way?

Damn Dan, saw the thread title and thought you'd got a big ass television.  Instead it's something even better.  Though, yeah, I'm liking the interior a lot more than the exterior.  Still a cool truck though :2vrolijk_21: .

Don, you've got to get with the jargon... :)

Thanks!  As far a big arse television, got that last spring, Sony Bravia X950G 85" 4k.  Talk about amazing picture, it certainly is!

Love the new truck.  I have had a few crew cab dually tow vehicles.  Black was the sharpest looking, hated it though impossible to keep clean.  White was my favorite hid dirt the best.  Wash an wax that a time or two, and I think you might decide that it the best color.

You are going to like the truck, probably the color as well.

2020 F-450
This is my 6th white vehicle and 4th with the metal flake paint, "Star White" for the 2020 models. I never cared for the KR interiors so this is a Limited, and I would prefer all black interior but the limited only comes in one color (that changes for the 2022 model).

If you like putzing with things - join the ford truck enthusiast forum and look for the Forscan threads.

If you hook up the trailer assist parts it works. Really a crutch for those that can't back but to give you an idea, once set up correctly you can back a 1/4 mile in a straight line hands free.

Watching the shift selector indicator on the left side of the instrument panel, on normal take-offs it seems to skip a gear or two down low, like 1st to 3rd, then 5th really fast.  I believe that 1st gear is around a 4.27 ratio, or close to that.  Add that to the 3.55 driveline gears and you've got a stump puller for sure.  Should get my RV moving smoothly and quickly if needed.

I will say this thing chits and gets and is SO smooth!  Very much enjoying it so far.  I will be hooking up the RV as soon as I have the new B&W companion base for the Ford OEM puck system.  Why couldn't all of the big three decide to do the same pattern for their pucks, but NO, they had to have their own special spacing... :(  Our first tow trip will be mid April from the greater St. Louis MO area up to the Des Moines IA area for the grand daughter's birthday party.

I don't know if the 350 and 450 have the same ratios, I think they do. 2020 0ver the 2019 6 speed is significant, 1st gear is 3.** compared to 4.**. Same with reverse. The reverse ratio is huge and should be great for backing up 5th wheels. I haven't really noticed any gear skipping yet. Supposedly when cold it will skop 4th and 6th. In tow haul it should not skip at all.

I have a 450 with the 430 rear and it does a fine job pulling our 23K trailer. 1st big trip coming up in May for a real test.

Thanks Duane!

Our '12 RAM 1 ton dually did an okay job with the Raptor 43' toy hauler, but at over 28k# for the truck and RV, I was over my capacity by around 5k#.  Although my per axle weights were just a few pounds under the placard limits on the door jam.  Maybe legal, but definitely not right with that much of a load.

I see conflicting numbers for gross combined weight on the new F350, but 33k# to 35k# seems to be the range.  With reserve capacity now, I feel a LOT better.  My first haul this year is coming up.  We'll be leaving the greater St. Louis MO area for the Des Moines IA for our grand daughter's birthday part.  I'll report back on the trip and let you all know how happy I'll probably be... :)
