Traction Control / Check Engine Light
« on: July 26, 2021, 07:31:31 AM »

Was on the way home Saturday night, hopped on the throttle to pass a car and the bike goes into "limp" mode..... TC light and Check Engine light come on, engine is still running but throttle is dead. Was able to limp to a gas station and after letting it set for a bit the throttle worked but the check engine light is still on. At least we were able to get home. Anybody experience this?

The bike will have codes.  What are they?

There were no codes. The TC & Engine light were on but no codes.

You didn't say so just double checking.  Are we talking an older bike?  The old serial bus Delphi stuff you had to jump across a couple terminals on the diagnostic port to get info sometimes.

When my compression release valve went, it was just like you described, only it was knocking, and pinging too. Same scenario, went to pass and WHAM! Made it to the dealer but had to wait forever because the factory was closed for Covid!

Did you have any error codes?
I called my dealer and told them what happened & he said it was probably the throttle control sensor? He said if it happens to let the bike set for a couple minutes and it would reset itself, which it did. My check engine light was still on and he had me reset it, rode all day yesterday with no problems. Almost time for the 10k service, I'll have them check it over then.

No error codes at all, but the bike was only running on one cylinder, so there was no way it was rideable, other than to get to the dealer about 5 miles away. The compression release valve totally disintegrated. Seems like you have a different problem. Glad you’re able to ride 👍 Good luck with the upcoming service.
