It's going in on Fri and no parts will be ordered until crank runout is checked. If it's excessive, it's new engine time. If not, we'll do the repairs/mods as previously discussed. Gets me to  thinking. Anyone know if HD has made any changes to new 110 engines to prevent the issues we're having? I've heard of .008" runout on new, unrun engines. How does this resolve anything? They have 07A P/N on Head Gasket now. Fine. What about Rocker Boxes. Are they properly clearanced now? How do I insure that a new motor is actually a new and improve version than the POS motors we have now? Hoist! 8)

Howie, have to admit having wondered the same thing relative to the unlucky souls who have suffered engine failures so far.  The only thing that has come to mind would be if a warranty replacement is built for the warranty failure rather than just pulled off the line and VIN stamped.  If it's built to meet a warranty order then, perhaps, the hands building will be doing some tolerance checking that isn't done in more massed production.

Honestly I think that's doubtful.  I more likely hope is that the failures to date have translated in to tighter tolerance checking for mass production itself.  But it is Harley Davidson.  So who really knows for sure  :nixweiss: .

Here's another visual.  The girls on Bourbon Street with their rotating tassles (or the really gifted ones with counter-rotating tassles).  If you look at them closely and dead on they all have some run out  ??? .
Chief - thanks for the analogy, I just about got it and this one hammered it home  :P.............

I need to give credit where credit is due. Don's tassle reference is much better than my drill bit reference. I bow to the king.

OK gang, off we go! Heading out to the dealer to bring in my Non-Wednesday bike for the head gaskets, rocker box clearancing, crank runout measurement, electronics fixing and maybe some other secret surprises! Probably leaving it stock though! ::) I'll let you guys know how we do. Hoist! 8)

Well, we went over everything. They are ordering and making sure all parts are in hand before I leave the bike. I took it home today and will probably drop it back off on Wednesday. I got a few tips from my new Tuner and have a couple of minor tricks up my sleeve, so stay tuned (no pun intended) for future Dyno Report! I hope it works out as I'm expecting! Hoist! 8)

When I was a young whippersnapper, I knew lotsa stuff, Howie.  Not what I thought I knew though & not seasoned enough to know what I did not really know. Not that I really knew anything much, but I sure as hell thought I did.  :confused5:

I read about 110 probs and while not troubled personally but concerned for those that have them and all, I file them away in the Category of Things That Make me Go Hmmmmmmmmmm...?   8)
