Mass. prison chief to testify in inmate's sex-change lawsuit

BOSTON -- A federal judge who will decide whether a convicted murderer can have a sex-change operation wants to hear from the head of the state's prison system.

Department of Correction Commissioner Harold Clarke is slated to testify Monday in federal court in the case of Michelle Kosilek, who claims not allowing the surgery amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

Prison officials say the surgery could make Kosilek a target for sexual assault by other inmates. Clarke, who took over the department in November, said last month that he would re-examine the case.
Robert Kosilek was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife in 1990. Kosilek legally changed her name to Michelle in 1993 and has been living as a woman in an all-male prison in Norfolk.

Only in Massachusetts baby...what a place, I love it but am happy not to be there.

I do miss Lewis' in Norwood center though, and Ohara's in Newton, and the Rebel in Walpole and a few other places I would be known to be around on occassion, well ok every day.

I read the article about this guy/girl (whatever you call it) the prison system says they dont want to give "it" the operations because if they did "it" would be vunerable to sexuable abuse in the male jail???? so even if they make it a woman they are still going to leave it with the men, ummm doesnt make sense to me. If you make it a chick wouldnt you house it with the women then???

either way big ass waste of tax payers dollars
