Do I need a shorter kickstand after lowering my bike?
« on: August 03, 2010, 10:21:36 PM »

I have lowered my 2010 SEUC with Progressive Suspension Monotubes 1" in the front and the 940's in the back. My bike is very tippy, when the bike is on the kickstand. So, Do I need a shorter Kickstand? or is there something else I should/ could do to make the bike more stable on the kickstand?

When you put the bike on the kickstand does it look and feel ok or is it standing up too straight.  The bike can answer this question for you better than any of us can.

SD, not a shorter kickstand but a different mounting bracket for the jiffy stand. The different brackets mount the jiffy stand at  different angles and thus affect the lean angle of the bile when parked.  The early 09 SERG's leaned too much and this was the fix. It's an easy fix.

The bike does stand too upright and needs to lean more. Where would I find different brackets for the jiffy stand?

Check any of the aftermarket bike parts shops (like J&P).  Tell them you need a kickstand adapter to use after the bike has been lowered.  This is nothing new and you're not reinventing the proverbial wheel.  People have been lowering bikes since training wheels came off.

use the bracket that came on the 2008 Roadglide.  This was the one that made it onto the early production SERG's like mine.  HD changed them out at no charge after we educated them ;D

Sharpshooter,When I first got my 09SEUC it leaned very far over when on the kickstand. I found out that when they went to a 17 inch front wheel they didn't account for that and apparently used the same jiffy stand bracket as on the earlier models with the 16 inch front wheels.I called Milwaulkee and they sent out a new jiffy stand bracket to make up for the height difference. It kicked my bike up so I could pull it off the kickstand easier. You may be able to get an early 09 jiffy stand bracket(possibly a takeoff from an early 09SEUC) from your dealer which would give you more of a lean angle, or check with your parts guy. I looked in the 2011 book and I did not see a shorter kickstand for lowered bikes, but I know they used to sell a shorter kickstand kit for people who lowered their bikes. Good Luck.

I've used these before from JP cycles.  Cheap and easy to install...
