Hardly broken in
« on: February 03, 2011, 05:55:20 PM »

Hi Everyone,

I recently became the proud owner of a 2003 Screamin Eagle Deuce. The original owner who purchased it in '03, had put on only 600 miles in over 7 years.
Before I started and test drove the bike, I put in some fresh gas, and looked at the oil dipstick which read full.

The question now is what sort of service should I have performed on this bike before I start to put on the miles in the spring?

I'm not looking to be cheap and overlook an important service, but i'm not looking to throw money at it for no good reason either.

Any thoughts?

If it were me I would change ALL the fluids and get new tires you don't want a blow out this summer. Good luck with the new ride.

x2. If you're not handy, I'd definitely bring it to the dealer for a full service and checkup before you go tooling around. The guy might not have had any service done with that low of miles, so it could be on the first fill right out of the box. Definitely get new tires too.

I would just follow the service intervals in the manual. 1000 mile service and if the tires are cracked the technicians will let you know. All the fluids are synthetic and are good until the service intervals no mater on the year. IMO Nice bike and a great find.

X4!  If the fluids are synthetic, it's not as crucial to change but it is cheap Insurance.  CHANGE THE TIRES ASAP!   Tires get hard and brittle  over time.  Do you want to be driving 70+ miles an hour on 8 year old tires?  Sorry to disagree, Mikey but ask any tire dealer.  Just because you do not see cracks does not mean the tire is not breaking down.  The intervals in the service manual resume the bike is being ridden regularly.
