Personalized my Yellow Jacket
« on: September 25, 2011, 04:56:56 PM »

Seeing as though I was out of town working last week I took advantage the dealer gave me with 15% off accessories and Labor. Had to personalize my Yellow Jacket a little bit! :D I went with LED headlight and spots. Went with black and chrome trim rings. Added windshield trim with lights (Smoke). Very happy with the out come, thought it complimented my black and yellow front end. On my saddle bags I went with what I had on my Nana, chrome wing tips and chrome spear trim. Also have the color matched spoiler running/turn lights. Inner fairing added a touch of chrome around radio to off set all that yellow. Also have speaker trim for front and rear that didn't come in yet. Moving down I got the magnetic glove box covers, tappet block chrome cover and went with my Kuryakn switchblade highway pegs ( I just love them, so many foot positions and matched up fair). On the rear I added LED brake and luggage rack light. I will eventually do conversion on tour pak lights to incorporate turn signals. When completed my back end will be lite up nicely. Added chrome muffler bracket covers. When I saw these I thought it would be cool to cover up them bolts and make it easier to clean. Just need to add I just love these wheels and rotors. This week I will call George for his tour pak relocation kit and give Steve at Fullsac a call with X pipe, 2" baffles and TTS. Cams will come later... ::)

My Yellow Jacket is putting a bigger smile on my face than expected, just love the ride and still haven't noticed any heat form cats, even after I sat in rush hour for about 20 minutes barely moving! Must still be numb from all the excitement! :nixweiss: :2vrolijk_21:

JR ... some very niced upgrades.  I have to ask how you like the magnetic lids.  Been thinking of doing these for
such little price if they hold up as they are suspose to.  Those buttons really suc* and dont even stay shut.
Again the ride looks fantastic.  But if that baby were mine it would be a Steeler Glide  :huepfenlol2:

BUCKNUT, it's definately a good name if your a steeler fan. I do like the steelers but being born and raised in Chicago, I'm a Bear fan! :nixweiss: ;D :2vrolijk_21:

I think I will really like them magnetic glove boxes. I think it would be a good habit to just make sure to seat top magnets by pushing on top buttons when closing. I wouldn't overload compartment either, but it sure will fit my needs. I want to get a windshield bag that will fit on that padded dash. Had one on my SEEG and got have one. I used the single pouch and it squished against my Clearview Winshield a tad. Dang, that's another thing I need to order! ::) Saw where someone posted they were using foxcreek leather bag. I believe that one is not as wide and may fit the dash. Good luck and God Bless! :2vrolijk_21:

JR, the bike looks great.  Those wheels look a lot easier to clean and keep clean than the '11 wheels, plus, they're chrome. :bananarock:  I like the black lights, too.  Spyder had those on his tract ......... uh, I mean, Huckleberry :huepfenlol2: at MV and against a dark fairing like his and the diamond dust part of your fairing, it looks sweet! :2vrolijk_21:

Well got in today and my Clearview Dark smoke windshield came in along with my Fox Creek windshield bag and Georges Tour Pak relocation kit. Ordered my Fullsac X pipe, 2" baffles and TTS today. Got my goodies on the bike and looks pretty good. Took it for a scoot tonight with Momma and she liked the extra room back there. I liked the smaller windshield bag. Big enough to keep camera, sunglasses and other small goodies in there. Here are some pics... :D

Dang JR george really does give some more room now doesnt he.  Now change the passanger floor boards in reverse
and it will give moma a good fit and give you a few more inches for the calf hit.  Mods are looking sweet, nice JOB.

Was looking at that tonight when I was making sure the height was right for her. First time I stopped I got reacquainted with the calf hit. If I reverse them (bring them back towards saddlebags) I figured it would interfere with her legs when I have the saddlebag bags on??? I will definitely give it a whirl! Thanks! :2vrolijk_21:

Great to read you're having so much fun with the new bike JR.  Seeing your additions and enjoyment with them brings two smiles.  One for the current and another thinking back to the loooonnnnng wait and huge parts pile collected while suffering through the delivery on your 05.  That pile of parts was taller than you are.  Only thing bigger was your smile when it all came home.  Glad you're enjoying it all over again :2vrolijk_21: .

When I saw the 12 bike on the Harley site I thought it looked pretty cool. Called the dealer and asked if they knew when one was coming in where I could look at it. He checked and said one is due in September and I asked what year!!! ;D I told the salesman I wouldn't know how to act getting one in early production and not waiting about 9 months for one to come in. I must say it is much better to get one early and accessorize then getting accessories and waiting on scooter! Thanks Don! :2vrolijk_21:

JR,  I mean to remove the stem bolt to frame not loosen and swivel the board.  Take entire assembly from one
side to the other.  Its that simple.

JR, I have a Fox Creek windshield bag on it's way, was so use to windshield bag on my old Road King was really missing not having one on the 09'. Thanks. Seeing yours with the black LED's and Chrome trim with visor's inspired me to "save up" $$ and get some for mine. I really can't see very well with the stock lighting. I was just wondering if you have got to ride much after dark, how are the new LED's? Brighter, more coverage, worth the money?
When I got my 09 I think the first thing I bought was the relocate bracket from George...you know me and momma needed more room. Keep the pics coming.

Hey Arland! :drink:

I'm glad I was able to inspire you to spend money! ::) :D This place has a way to do that! :P I love the foxcreek windshield bag. I had the larger single windshield bag from HD on my SEEG and needed something on my new Ultra. This bag is smaller but will meet my needs just fine. I like the way it looks on the dash pad. What I like about the Foxcreek bag is the mount. It is not a metal bracket like the HD was so it will accommodate the windshield better {more flexable). Both bags make contact with the Clearview shields I use. Not sure about the pitch on a stock windshield. The HD bag came with a protective film that goes in front of the bag to keep from rubbing against the windshield. I installed it on my SEEG but unfortunately it didn't last. Started curling around the edges so I took it off. Over time I developed a smudging on the windshield from the bag but as long as you never remove the bag it was not noticeable. Thought about getting some 3M protection to put in it's place but never did.

The LED lights are a huge improvement! I love them. I did notice in a turn you loose the peripheral brightness you have when running straight. It is due to the way the spots are designed. The spots LEDs have a bar unlike the headlight that has round, circular lights. So when in a turn the angle of the front end shoots the spots downward which gives you sort of a black out in the direction of your turn or lean compared to running straight up. Does this make sense to you?  :nixweiss: Anyway, it is still worth the money in my opinion. I really LOVE the way the black lens and chrome rings off sets the front end of my Yellow Jacket! Wasn't sure when ordering how it would look but know I couldn't be happier! :P :2vrolijk_21: Have a great day and God Bless!!! :2vrolijk_21:

JR, thanks for the feedback. I switched the passenger boards around last year like Bucknut said and it was a big improvement for my legs. Did not seem to help my BSR that much but most of the time she rides her RKC anyway. Have to save up for the LED lights (ouch $$) yours look great, I hope they look that good on mine but more importantly I know they will help me see better. Oh Santa...       Arland

I haven't swapped my passenger floorboards yet. It looks to me like the floorbard design will be swapped also and not match the front design. Momma is not a full time rider so I will continue to mole this over. Fact is I'm kinda anal about things like that, may sound silly but that's just the way God made me! :nixweiss:

Well, you are correct about the design on the passenger floorboards not matching the rider boards if you swap sides, BUT I think I remember reading some old posts (maybe a year ago) about also switching the back plates so they match. Sorry I don't recall the exact solution to that issue. Normally them not matching would have been a deal breaker for me also but I decided it was more important for them to not hit me in the legs whenever I needed to push the bike backwards. Maybe someone else can help.

JR...it is possible to swap the brackets, then take the floorboards off and swap them back so things will look "normal".  I had mine swapped for a little while, but didn't like the look of the boards not matching, so put them back.  I put the George Anderson TP relocator on, and now have the passenger boards one notch forward of vertical, which helps.  With them horizontal to the ground, there is NO room for your legs, especially if you've got short legs and can't get them out far enough to miss the passenger boards.  Judi is 5'3" and the one notch from vertical seems to be working for her.  I can't remember how tall Deb is, but I seem to remember she's pretty petite...

Right now I don't have a big problem with it as long as I rember she's back there and there down! :D I'm 6' and just be sure to spread my stance a little more. Thanks again! :2vrolijk_21:

Hey JR, saving for a new seat, probably be spring before I get new lights. I am kind of torn between the HD Black LED's and the Kuryakn/Trucklite LED's. I really like the Black ones like yours and hope they would look that good on my bike. I guess the real problem is the difference in price between the two since from what I have read, I think they are pretty close performance wise. Another thing I have been trying to decide on is the trim rings. I've always liked the visor style like you installed on yours, I had them on my old Road King. I saw Kuryakn now has the trim with the light ring around it for the aux. lights and of course the headlight. I did not like them at first but they are growing on me. So from a daytime safety standpoint I have been thinking of using the lighted rings on all three lights. How do you think that would look? I want the Harley Black LED's but the smart side of me says the cheaper Kuryakn's may work just as well. :nixweiss: Sorry to confuse you just typed Black LED's in the post so I could find the pics of your bike easier.

Hey Arland! :drink: Thanks for explaining the "Black LED's", I understand now. Reading your post I understand your decision on hand. Ultrafxr has the Kuryakyn lights on his 07 Ultra and he loves them. I saw them in person and they look good too in my opinion. Looked at the lighted trim ring and I like it! My thoughts were too bad you couldn't use the trim rings I have on my scoot with the Kuryakyn. Oh well, can't have everything. :D Considering the cost comparisons with HD LED's, it's a no brainer. It was easier for me to decide because I had $2,000 in chrome cash from my Harley visa card. I used it to get most of what I wanted. Then the money I saved on my extended warranty I convinced myself it was meant to be for my Fullsac goodies! :P If you get the Kuryakyn LED's and don't like the looks...there is always Ebay! ::) I will be praying for your decision buddy, God Bless ya man! :2vrolijk_21:

JR,
As always, you've managed to transform your bike into a work of art!!   :2vrolijk_21:  You have a knack for adding just the right amount of bling to bring everything together.  And those black LED lights look wicked on your Yellow Jacket!!!  So when does it go in to make the "100 Club".  Won't take much for the 110 to get there, just a new set of cams and you're there.

You (Red)Devil you!!! Almost had me dialing the phone number to get those cams!!! :o :D. Actually with the Fullsac goodies I am pretty happy with the way it is running. When I got the Yellow Jacket I said I won't go overboard like I did with my Nana. ::) I did want to put my signature on it and I am bout done for now. Cams may come after the New Year and then again might not. Not sure I wanna give a dealer a reason to mess with me should a problem arise down the road. After all these 110's are not as reliable as my 103 Stroker was in the Nana.  :nixweiss:

Thanks buddy I'll take all the help I can get...you know prayer wise! Yeah, your visor style trim rings with led halo's would be way cool...I would buy those for sure. The other day while surfing ebay or someplace (can't remember where) I thought I ran across a kit for a strip of LED's that you could add to a headlight or wherever you wanted. You could cut the strip after every third light. Will look some more Sat. after work. I have plenty of time to decide, who knows may save up for the HD Black ones. I knew some of the guys had the Kuryakn's and loved them. Maybe this spring or summer we can hook up and ride a little. If you come this way let me know. Arland

I don't think I would put anything on mine unless it was built into the trim ring or headlamp assembly. I wouldn't like anything sticking on it that didn't look like it was suppose to be there. Those peal and stick strips may not look so bad when LED's are on but would stand out with them off, unless they were behind a lense or trim ring. Just thinking out loud and just my opinion and we all know about opinions, there just like...well, everyone has one! :D

God willing we will hook up this upcoming year. I would love to ride in your neck of the woods! Bless ya buddy!  :2vrolijk_21:

That's important any time you're riding two up.....wether you're 5' or 6'4".  I've had a bruise on the back of my calf more than once from passenger floorboards.  The up side is I never have dropped it because I was running over myself. :2vrolijk_21:

I don't know how I missed this thread JR but man......when you do it......you really do it.  We must have went to the same school.....where we learned half measures avail us nothing. :huepfenlol2:  Brother, if you're going to do it......go all the way with it.  We'll worry about the consequences later. :nervous:

Seriously.....all jokin aside....it looks very nice JR! :2vrolijk_21:   Wait till you get the Fullsac set up on there.......it'll feel like a brand new bike all over again. :bananarock:

Thanks JC! :2vrolijk_21:

I have added a few more goodies since I last posted this thread and will try to snap some pics later. Been working out of town during the week and hadn't had much time to do so. I really love the outcome of my Yellow Jacket and love the sound of the fullsac headers and 2" baffles. TTS was a great improvement with the throttle response and power. For now I am satisfied with the performance. ::) Hope you and Terrie are doing well and have a wonderful Christmas! Love ya man, God Bless! :2vrolijk_21:

Hey Keith! :drink: Went with progressive standard 31-2500 monotubes in the front and the 940's in the rear. With the 940's advertising 1" lower ride I wasn't sure which monotube to go with...
Progressive replied and advised as follows: "If you do not need to lower the front end much for your personal interests what I would do is run the 940 on the rear and the standard 31-2500 on the front and leave out the preload spacers. That will drop the front end about 1/2 inch and set it up perfect and it rides really great!"
Only have about 100 miles in the saddle since picking up scooter but there was a noticeable difference just on the ride home. I'm satisfied. I am playing with the ride adjustment on the rear 940's. Started home with them set at 1 ring and seemed OK, moved it to 2 rings and haven't rode enough on 2 to decide. I will play with them and find a sweet spot like I did on my SEEG.

Well, I have been riding for a few weeks and really am satisified with the progressive 940's on the rear and monotubes in the front. I was advised by progressive to leave out the preload spacers in the front, that will lower the front about 1/2" and have a great ride. They were right and had a noticeable difference when I lower my feet at a light. :2vrolijk_21: I also got my speaker trim rings and some other goodies on the bike since I last posted and will post them pictures next. I have also had some time in both saddles (SEEG and SEUC) and when I got on my new SEUC after dropping off my SEEG...what a noticeable difference in ride and handling. I'm glad I got my new Yellow Jacket and got it the way I want it now. God Bless! :2vrolijk_21:

JR, I like your "Yellow Jacket" and really like the personalized license plate.   Question - How do you like the LED lights you added? I have been thinking about adding these.  I like to ride some at night in the summer and there are a lot of critters ( Elk, Deer, Etc.) in the area and I was curious if this would help.

Thank you very much catsnhogs! The LEDs are fantastic. On my first trip we took a weekend ride to Lynchburg. Got in late at night and I was fourth in a row of six bikes. I noticed the road was really lite up on both sides of the road. Wasn't sure if it was my lights or a combination of all the bikes so I turned my spots off and it got dark quick. I couldn't believe how wide it was shinning. It was a good thing too because on two occations we had deer crossing. Saw them coming and no worries. When we got to the cabins everyone said they couldn't believe my lights. In saying that I got to add a couple things. These are expensive but I love the look of the dark lens on my bike. Kuryakyn are a lot cheaper and probably brighter. Also noticed the spots are not as effective in a turn. It is the way the light bar is in the lens. When turning it loses effectiveness. The way the Kuryakyns are made it doesn't look like that would be a problem. I love em but unless you want the dark lense like me, you could always go Kuryakn and save money. :2vrolijk_21:

Nice ride JR.  Do you know the part numbers of the decals you added to the rear speaker pods and the back of the Tour Pak?

92209-05 is the screamin eagle medallions $20 each and I painted the orange yellow with my touch up paint. Here is the link for medallions http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448768739&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302291011&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302291011&locale=en_US&bmUID=1337551197071&bmLocale=en_US

For the Screamin Eagle decal I made it on edecals.com. Just hit this link http://www.edecals.com/custom_decal_designer/instant_sticker_designer.html and type in box Screamin'Eagle (I went with no space between Screamin' and Eagle) in Chrome Mirror, 3/4" Tall, 10" Wide, Right Slant in Chicago Font! It cost me $17.45 shipped. :2vrolijk_21: Don't know how long it will last but I like it. What the hay, for under $20 I can throw another on on! :D

Hope this helps, good luck and God Bless! :2vrolijk_21:

JR,

I took delivery of a new 2012 CVO Ultra ( Blue & Silver ) this week and I had the dealer add LED Headlight & Running Lights with the dark lens and I really like the way they look and how they light up the road at night. The pics of your yellow jacket in this post with those headlights assisted in this decision.

Thanks :2vrolijk_21:

Thank you for all of the great info and sharing your ideas.  I have the same bike and it is great to see what the mods look like.

What do you think of the full sac system. Did you do the full stage 1 with turner?

Thanks again.

Thank you for all of the great info and sharing your ideas.  I have the same bike and it is great to see what the mods look like.

What do you think of the full sac system. Did you do the full stage 1 with turner?

Thanks again.

Jeffrey

Hey Jeffrey! :drink: Welcome to this site and congrats on your Yellow Jacket. I really like the sound of the 2" baffles compared to the D&D fatcats I had on my SEEG. I went with the TTS tuner and premap sent from Steve with Fullsac. I didn't have to do anything with air cleaner because our bikes come with the high flow air cleaner. After some miles on it I am satisfied with the performance and how it took the dead spot out of the fly by wire throttle. :2vrolijk_21: I still get an occasional decel pop but haven't had any time to run a V tune on it. :2vrolijk_21:

JR,   thanks for the info on the decals. I think the chrome one on the back of the TP looks great.  Ordered mine today.
Here's a pic of my Buzz with a little Photoshop on the side of the TP.  Notice the graphics have been copied on to the side of the TP...if I can find a good painter at a reasonable rate just might have this done for real!  gotta do something to break up the big yellow box look of the TP...maybe a Super Bee decal?????

Hey Dan! Pretty cool photoshop! :2vrolijk_21: The big yellow box doesn't bother me but I did own a Sunrise Yellow SEEG for 7 years! :nixweiss: :huepfenjump3: :bananarock: Where did you get that horn cover or is that photshopped too? Kinda neat the way if blends in with the fins on the engine! I'm really happy the way that chrome Screamin Eagle decal turned out and think you will too. Nice looking scooter man, God Bless!

The horn is a Mini Beast 5 air horn http://www.thepropad.com/MiniBeast-5-Prodlist.html
Great for getting cagers and deer attention.  Looks good and sounds better to me!
Plug in play too, no wires to cut

I had the mini beast...don't remeber which version on my SEEG. It was nice. I got to say I'm pretty impressed with the sound of my horn on the new bike. It's a lot louder than my SEEG was stock. :2vrolijk_21:

JR, I'm curious why you changed out the suspension?  Does the Progressive setup give a better ride?  Sounds like the 940's are not air shocks so how do you adjust for two up w/luggage loads?  My stock Bee rides stiff so I'm searching for a better ride any help ius appreciated.  And the rear "Screamin'Eagle" decal came in and looks great.  Already had others want to order one.  Thanks for the info!

Dan, I changed out the suspension for a more controlled ride. Depending on your riding style you may not need to upgrade your shocks. I was coming off my 2005 SEEG that had Progressive 440's and bike came lowered from the factory 1". The 1st thing I noticed on my SEUC was how tall it felt. The progressive 940's advertise to lower the saddle height 1" but not loose height of standard shock. So I decided to do the upgrade the rears and went with monotubes in the front and am glad I did. Now I will say my ride was comfortable with the air shocks but lose stability especially in the front with the dive. Do a search on shocks here and you will find all kinds of info and as to why. On the adjustments it is manual and you get it set where you like it and count the rings. when my wife gets on I turn it in another ring. Best thing would be to ride one that has been upgraded before spending any money. If you get near Memphis or the next GTG (Maggie Valley) you can ride mine. :2vrolijk_21: Good luck and God Bless!

JR

The scoot looks great!  You need to change out your tank emblems to the eagles off the 2011 Street Glide.

I added the Screaming Eagle Medallions like yours!

Hey Napalm! :drink: I definately like your mods! :2vrolijk_21: I was wanting the 110 derby cover but may go with the cross of thorns instead...kinda fits my who I am a bit more! ::)
The tank emblems should have come on all screamin eagle bikes in my opinion, but for know I will keep the tank badges with the big city light theme on it. Kinda think they look cool. Now if they fall off like some here have had happen, I may consider it then. The only thing I noticed with those on your bike is the line of the tank emblem don't quite flow with the line of the stripe on the tank. Otherwise it looks awesome! :2vrolijk_21:

J&P cycles is what I like so far. They are out of stock right now and waiting on email when available again. There are some other ones out there but I kinda like J&Ps best for now...What do you think??? :nixweiss:
