Recalls for the clutch on the 2014 models
« on: October 16, 2013, 08:58:48 PM »

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Harley-Davidson is voluntarily recalling some 2014 motorcycle models because of a possible safety issue.

The Milwaukee-based company says the recall of about 29,000 bikes includes a "Do Not Ride" notice to owners and a "Do Not Deliver" notice to dealers until the motorcycle is fixed.

Harley-Davidson says the hydraulic clutch system in some of the motorcycles might not disengage the clutch, making it hard to slow or stop.

Owners of affected motorcycles should arrange an inspection with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer. The dealer will pick up, inspect and make the repairs at no cost.

The recalls affect Touring motorcycles models FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTKSE and FLHRSE, plus Softail CVOs and Trikes, models FLHTCUTG, FXSBSE and FLSTNSE, built between May 3, 2013, and Oct. 14, 2013.

I wonder why they never recalled the CVO's that had the same problem back in '05 through '09, or even admitted it was a problem for that matter.  Must have sold one of the affected bikes to a high powered lawyer this time; maybe one who has contacts at NHTSA.

I doubt it. NHTSA is shut down right now along with most of Washington.   :huepfenlol2:

I checked the HD recall site and found my bike included in this recall. It does not say to stop riding. This is what it says:

"We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible, should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campains may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details"

This sounds like generic recall copy. The recall Notice is: "0153: RCL: 2014 TOURING HYD CLT M/CL " I copied from my recall notice online.

Will call dealer in the morning to have fixed; just hope they have the parts.

Ummm, this happened to my 2010!  Clutch lever locked up tight, after it pulled to the bar with no effect, pumped up solid.  Felt like it was welded to the bar.  Dealer replaced everything from the clutch basket to the master cylinder.

The lines getting hot and boiling the fluid for intermittent loss of clutch isn't a new thing nor specific to only the model segment specified.  Mother Harley is cutting corners again.  Whatever type of heat shield they wrap around the line will be something that others might consider just buying over the counter once a part number is assigned.
