Took my new to me FXR3 in for a 5,000 miles service. I have put over 1,000 miles on it since I got it 2 months ago.

I got to ride the 2019 yesterday, first time in 3 weeks!
Hand surgery went ok, a little sore still but it was nice to get the new bike out for a bit.

Today: long ride with some friends.

Well, my trip did not go as planned.  Motor failed on long Island 10 miles before the Orient Point Ferry.  Not sure yet what left go.  4 hours to get a tow, HOG never did get me a tow.

You can not rent a pick up, box van or trailer leaving Long Island or NYC.  They want a 3 week notice for a one way rental.  Its 2600 dollars one way to TN.  Took 15 phone calls to find a one way car rental.  So I drove home Sunday.  Tuesday I rode the King up to Front Royal to enjoy the rest of our trip with my wife.

Leaving in 30 minutes in a pick up to drive back to Long Island to get the Road Glide and bring it home Wednesday.  815 or so miles each way.

Sad to hear Dave I know the feeling of being broke down on a trip. Hope all goes well and the RG not to bad.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune!
I think we’ve all been there one time or another and put a damper on a trip.

Just for future reference, and depending on the conditions I don’t rely on tow companies or insurance companies to get me home. U-haul will rent me a very nice motorcycle trailer here for $14.00 a day and hook it up to my van or a buddies pickup and we bring it back to my place. Lot cheaper and MUCH better service! Of course things can be much different way out of town.

Let us know what you find out on your engine and good luck!👍

That sucks. Sorry man.  Strictly for the "misery loves company" component this is the third story I've heard this year of HOG roadside assistance being not just poor but useless.  Will be curious about what happened in the engine.  Safe trip to bring it home.

I did get my bike out yesterday for it's first major outing since my 128" build and it performed flawlessly. I went from my home in Marysville over Stevens pass and had lunch at Rusty's in Cashmere. When I left home it was about 70 degrees, a couple hours later it was over 95 in Cashmere! So with mountain passes and major temperature changes the bike did awesome!

I did have one minor hiccup though. I lost a cover plate from my right lower fairing somewhere along the way  :zwtf:
and ordered a new one this morning.

On the old FXR2 today.  Removed the saddle and installed a Badlands modules.  So more lighting.  The better part was more brighter lighting, especially in the front.

Changed out the amber lenses for smoked lenses in the front and red ones in back with bright red LEDs all over the back now.  In the front went some amber LEDs that also included an outer ring of bright white lights.  Gives the effect of a DRL.  I honestly didn't expect much.  The little f$%*ers are awesome!

Not defending HOG, I no longer am a member, but they are not the only one having a hard time dispatching a tow truck. I heard of AAA wait times of 4+ hours in the Tampa area on a regular basis. Tow companies are still willing to sign-up with the Services but the recoup is so low they only respond when absolutely no other tows are available. Have some friends that operate tow company, their drivers will not respond, especially  at night, to any kind of service tow. Pay is so low they just ignore the calls.
I pay for tow & labor thru my insurance plus it's included on our new cars but I pray to not have to use it.
