Man, it's hard to lose a good friend. I was looking back at Toby and Dave I see a picture of Powder on the previous page (226) on your boat in the spring 2020, just before you lost her. Who would have known.  We just spent the weekend dog-sitting my hunting buddies 6 mo old yellow lab. I forgot what a puppy is like. Lots of laughs and yells.  Gotta love 'um though.

frankie ready for a ride
What's the device you use to carry the pup? Is it made for the purpose?

Powder was a great Friend (dog), I miss her every day  My boat has never moved with out her on it, so this spring will feel strange.

Pepper the new pup is doing pretty well.  Lots of work, which puppies are.  For the most part she is pretty good, and is taking to much of her training pretty well.  Hoping she likes boating as much as Powder did.

My boy Dexter, is getting larger. He's 9 months old now, and 40 pounds. Hopefully he doesn't get much larger.

Holly....our little 10 year old dog...seemed to have aged 5 years in the last month......then the last few days very 'lazy' ...took her to the vet today.....kidneys shut down 'levels off the chart...can't even measure. The vet gave her a pain killer that'll last about 24 hours just before we picked her up a few minutes ago. She's going to spend until tomorrow with us....then tomorrow at 11:30....we will be with her when she goes.

My wife called me on x-mas eve just over 10 years ago and said she was holding the cutest puppy....I reiterated my position...."we don't need a f'n dog"....I said don't bring her home! She did! Was an awkward x-mas....I did block off the kitchen with some plywood so the little rodent wouldn't piss on the carpet. I was working 14/14 nights out of town. After my first shift 'post puppy acquisition'...I was on the couch having a nap from about noon to 3, when the kid would get home and wake me up. When she got home and slammed the door.....the little pup had somehow scaled the 12" barrier......got in the living room.....clawed her way onto the sofa via a blanket I assume......and was on my chest staring at me.....well...damn it....if I didn't start to like her.

From then on.....she was a great pup! She even rode occasionally...had the T-bags dog luggage....like it best when my wife was also with us on her bike...she liked to keep her in sight. Loved to 'fight'.....she caught a tooth in my nostril...and brought tears to my eyes.

Gonna have her cremated and my Daughter is going to make a suitable urn and get it fired at the University where she just finished a pottery class. Now who's gonna be happy to see me every time I come through the door?

Damn....was hoping this was a few years away yet!

The big rawhide bone kept her busy in the garage....and she couldn't haul it up and over the 4" step into the house.

Just noticed that just 9 days ago I was inquiring about a different way to have Holly ride with me.

Holly was a good name for her.....she responded when called "Harley"!

She didn't play fetch...it somehow got called 'go get it' from when she was just a pup and would bring the ball back and let it go as she was still running....and go for it again and again......until she got tuckered out......and would just drop and sleep regardless of where in the game we were at that critical moment.

Dayne, sorry you're losing a good friend.  The memories will keep coming back for a long time. Let them come--along with the tears.  Just wish these family members would be around awhile longer for all of us.  Fred

Sorry for your loss.  I know how difficult it is to loose a member of the family.  Its also a difficult decision to make.

Ever hear Maggie's song from Chris Stapleton?  The first time I listen to it was 5:30 am and I was out walking my dog by songs end I was in tears looking at my dog who was just turning 11.  Still with me....

Maybe I'll listen to it another day......it's too hard getting through an hour or two yet.

When we lost our beloved Maggie last summer, I swore that was the last dog in our house(my Son has 3 and lives 1/2mi away & they visit all times). We were comming home from SC several months ago and decided to take a stroll thru the Mecklenburg Animal Shelter. How could you say no to this...........................meet "Harley"

My advice Dayne.......don't listen to it if you have had a few, ruined my keyboard

Well.....a couple months ago we decided to get another pup(were supposed to get him on Dec 15)....were on the list and picked a one.....he did not pass his last vet check-up...he had a bad heart murmur and the vet said he'd probably not have a very long life. Sure glad we found out before we met him!

Then we were first on the list to pick from the next litter......and picked 'Pepsi'......to be delivered from Calgary to Victoria by plane on Feb 2......1/2 hour late, but, no other issues. We renamed him Ryder....'cause he's gonna ride, just like Holly. And ....when he gets a little rambunctious I can say to him "Easy, Ryder!". Right now he's a 3 1/2 # terrorizer. Batting 1000 for pooping on the pee pad....and about 750 for peeing....not too bad for 9 weeks old!

Supposed to be warm later this week......gonna get him with me on the bike idling in the open garage.

Rescue is great fro both sides  :drink:
We have looked locally.....and even further away......Nothing small enough to ride the bike / travel as carry-on AND hypo-alergenic . We might not have rescued....but.....can guarantee that this dog will not be abused or abandoned!!! We're pretty sure he won the lottery!

And....I get cheques that I don't want from a rogue relative.....I spit them between the local SPCA and local Big Brothers.....when she gets the returned cheques and sees who cashed them, it makes a bit of a statement!!
