I highly recommend not crossing over the passes and through Death Valley in the dark. My bike, Death Valley floor at 10:00Pm, overcast and 92 degrees. Did I say it was dark?



Nor to get gas near Buttonwillow Ca

What a hoot!  And, come to find out, a person can get lit up for going 87 mph and get a "rural" ticket for wasting valuable resources.  Nevada, where your bartender packs.

I waited until the last few days before the trip to confirm I could make it.

Andy and I left Fremont around 8:30 am and arrived in Beatty around 9:00 pm.

The Tioga and Sonora passes over the Sierras which would save us an hour each way were closed.  Our choices were either to go the scenic northern route over the Carson Pass on Hwy-88 or the not so scenic southern route over the Tehachapi Pass. (40 minutes longer going north for me, about 70 minutes longer going north for Andy).  I chose the northern route both ways and Andy chose the southern route going home.

California has had a very mild winter and early spring.  We finally got about a third of our normal rainfall which doesn't give us enough water to make it comfortably through the year but it did make the grasses green and the flowers bloom.

There is plenty of snow in the Sierras to really enjoy viewing this time of year but not enough for our water resources.

Saw a lot of State Police on the trip to Beatty from a distance.

We pushed the last couple of hours to make it to Beatty because we were betting on getting to a better motel.

Here are a few pictures of the trip there.

Many of the pics are quick off the cuff shots and I had some bug boogers on the lens.  I like this excuse but my standing still pics aren't really any better.  :nixweiss:
