Camera Thoughts Anyone
« on: May 29, 2019, 09:58:35 AM »

Looking for  input on cameras to replace a  very old digital  camera that sometimes has a mind of its own, like not taking a picture while under power lines.
We are going on a road trip next month and want something that will be under
$500.00 range.
Haven't looked into new cameras and don't want the sales guy to just take advantage of my ignorance in what to look for to get the most for the money spent.

I have an older Olympus and it still does everything I want in a DSLR.  And it's not very big, easy to pack on a bike.

Not the latest and greatest but I can even get lenses cheaply now.  Get a really fast focus auto .

They are 4/3rds sensors.
Here is what I have and I love it!

I have wrapped up lots of dough in first Canon SLR with Lenses and then changed over to Sony Mirrorless full frame with several expensive lens's.  But now I by far use my iPhone 10s takes great pictures not of course in the same ball park as the Sony but I always carry the iPhone and take lots more pictures.

I find it is hard to beat a Canon SureShot for quality, ease of use, packability, and price.  When set to high resolution, I can have a 20X30 print made and hang it in my office and it looks fantastic.   I attach and o-ring to the camera and then hang it around my neck on a lanyard, so it's there for all the pics from the saddle on the road.  Very convienent, but probably not the safest.

We purchased a Canon PowerShot SX730 HS prior to our 2017 Yellowstone/Sturgis trip.  It's the best little hand held camera I've ever had and a zoom that's outa dis world.  Here's an example:

This first shot is normal, no zoom and shows where we were standing.  There is a nest in the middle of this picture on the top of one of the finger rock formations.  I have to make it a bit smaller to fit the site's size requirements.

Here's full zoom, two Osprey's in that same nest.  We have all kinds of pictures like this from that trip.  I HIGHLY recommend that camera.

Haird that is some good pictures for sure. looked the camera up on line and amazed at the zoom capabilities.
We ended up with a Minolta D5600, been a Minolta owner for awhile, my 35 mm was always a great camera except the time it didn't have a roll of film in it, only I will know those pictures I took when the train jumped the track and fell off the bridge down beside the HI way.

Although we have some very good cameras we never use them anymore. I have tried Iphone's a few times but never liked them and a few years ago went back to Samsung. The current 10S we both have take amazing pics. No longer worth it to carry a separate camera in my opinion. I at one time made fun of people taking Cell Phone pictures but now, if you can hold it still and use the correct mode the pictures are great.
