Crash Sequence - CCS - 6 SEP 08 - EX#1 - Arnie Hastings
« on: September 07, 2008, 04:57:52 PM »

Wow! yesterday's races at Summit Point, West Va ... when they finally got going due to the hurricane ... were no kidding edge-of-your seat, stuff.

I was camped out in T1 & T2 and got a great view of the action ...

Here's a clip of Arnie Hastings ... 53 years old, I believe.  Wearing a number 1 plate (won his class championship last year).

After getting a great start, then running off (in T10, I think), then getting back on track, then catching a bunch of folks working his way back up the line, he eventually went down in T1.  He's just fine.

It was great watching him fight to make back positions.

I think 9 or 10 people started that race ... only 3 finished.

It was in that wet/"not-so-wet" transition period that always seems so hard to deal with.

Afterwards, I tracked Arnie down in the pits. I said, "Arnie, that was about a 100 mph crash." His response (with a smile), "yeah".

LOL.

The Video (give it about 30 seconds to load):

As long as you don't hit anything while sliding, falling in the wet is less tramatic than in the dry.....(don't ask me how I know this)   :-[har!  spyder

Not sure if it's practiced or something learned, but it appeared he knew how to go w/the fall. I've noticed that the leathers they wear seem to have some extra protection/padding on the upper back area. Also noticed he just slid along on his back and kept his hands/arms up and out of the way.

Wet, Dry, Forward, Backward, On your back...what ever the case I hate doing it and he did it perfectly.

Nice production on the video too.

Here's a little bit of yesterdays practice sessions in the wet (including sidecars) ... followed by T1/T2 action from the four races.

This is every good pass, run off, ran wide, bobble, or crash in T1 or T2 yesterday ... except for Arnies, cause he got is very own clip.  LOL.

Unedited except for some slo-motion replays of good parts.

Give the video 10 - 20 seconds to load.

Enjoy.

Rat enjoyed all your videos, but haven't seen your name on the MV list of attendees this year.  :confused5: Hope you can make it.  :2vrolijk_21:

Thks!

On MV ... It's not looking good, Dave.

I'm in Army funded Grad school this year ... they won't let me out during the week ... so that would mean leaving here Friday night, driving till after midnight ... for SAT, then leaving in the morning on Sunday.

Add to that, my wife it a bit "not happy" with me cause of all the time spent at the track lately (I go again next weekend).

Still a chance.  Got to play it by ear.  If I come, I won't be able to post up about it till that week prolly.

I'm not worried about a place to stay.  If I can come, I'll either use Toyman's RV ... or bring a tent (I sleep in a tent several times a month at the track).

Hooah!

P.S. - You guys are gonna like my next video.  The local "Patriot H-D Dealership" had me film a "how to do a 5k service" today.  I got 4 hours of video.

We did it on a full-dresser (FLX? I dunno ... the letters on the Harleys confuse me.  It was a big one with a full screen, radio, heated grips, bags).

Should be kewl.
