440 Progressives
« on: April 15, 2008, 04:49:20 PM »

I own an 04 SEEG... I'm 5'10" 180lbs and don't allow a female passenger over 115 lbs (I know I'm shallow).
Thinking of changing out the junk HD air shocks for 440 Progressives.
Should I go with the 12" or 11.5" ?  Heavy duty or standard spring rate ?

Opinions would be appreciated

Thanks

Joel

I put a pair of 11.5 440's on my 03 Road king with standard springs and worked great. I'm 220 # carring another 130# with two up. good luck.

I did the 12.5" standard Progressives because they were only about .25" longer than stock and the longer the shock, the better the ride. I put about the same amount of weight on the bike as you. I have a 31" inseam and the height is just right. They never bottom and the ride is significantly better than the stock junk on the 2004/2005 SEEGs. :pumpkin:

I put 25000 on my 440s before they leaked and were rebuilt under warranty. I liked them better than the air shocks but they dont compare (imho) to the bitubos. I am packing some extra tonage at 290lbs :bananarock:

The 440's are an excellent and affordable upgrade.

Are there better shocks ?

Is a Ferarri better than a Corvette ?

I'm still interested in finding a good aftermarket 12" air shock.  I like being able to adjust preload by just opening the left saddlebag and either adding or removing a little air, versus releasing each bag to crank the spring adjusters up or down on the shocks.  Has anyone found a good replacement air shock?  Not interested in ultra high priced systems, on board compressors, etc., just two better than stock shocks and my handy dandy little air pump. :confused5:

Jerry,
Bubba_T has a set of Progressive air shocks on his 03 SERK. They have the firm handling characteristics of the 440's but the nice cushy feel cruising along you'd expect from an air ride. Check em out

Perhaps, these are interesting : Arnott Air Ride System
It runs right through to the heart of our system, Bilstein® Monotube Shock Absorbers. Add to that the reputation of a quality Goodyear® air spring
