Title: Standard Air Filter
Post by: KevVallance on March 17, 2022, 12:03:40 PM
I own a 2009 Electra Glide Ultra Classic CVO.
My questions to you knowledgeable people are ;
Can I wash my standard air filter ?
Is it worth changing to a K & N replacement air filter ?
Many thanks in advance from the Iberian Peninsular.

Hola!

No, you cannot wash the stock paper air filter.  You can blow out dirt from the inside with air from a pressurized hose.  Is the K&N worth buying is a relative question.  After buying 3 or 4 stock filters your price point is even.  Yes the K&N breathes more, but unless you plan on doing other modifications, cams, exhaust, dyno tune and such it might not be worth it.

Also keep in mind that the K&N breathes more air because it filters less, at least that's what some comparisons have proved on YouTube.  Some say the K&N works best when it's dirty but I don't know about that.

Do they have modification restrictions in Espana?  I ask because if they do, a K&N filter might not pass inspection.

Good luck.

I have washed the paper HD filters for years, Never had any problems with them. Just soak in a pan with light mixture of all purpose cleaner and water (Dawn will work). Rinse thoroughly with the kitchen faucet from inside out, no heavy pressure. Let it dry overnight and all is well. We tried one on flow bench one time many years ago, showed no sigh of detoriation after being washed.
