Title: '07 SERK console?
Post by: dereck on January 02, 2007, 07:28:10 PM
Is this gap between the console and seat normal?

If no, I'm guessing I can have the dealership fix it under warranty.

I’m unsure exactly what the second picture is of but the first one is definitely excessive, I’ve never noticed any gap in mine but I will examine it closer tomorrow.

No gap on mine looks like the front bracket is not all the way in or bent

When my dealer received the first CVO and it was a SERK, I made some pics.
On this, we see a gap but not so important than your.

Look the seat installation !

Concerning the gap near the tank, it was same !

Information : this bike was just unpackaged and not prepared by the dealer.

Dereck,
Definitely need to take the seat off and see if the front tab is inserted correctly. I would do this before taking it back to dealer just for my own piece of mind. Could end up being an easy fix w/o risking dealer/tech damaging something else while it's there. [smiley=nervous.gif]

Dereck,

I definatly don't have that gap between the seat and the console.  I will go home tonight and check for any gap around the front of the tank.

I agree with everyone else here.  It looks like the seat is mounted correctly.

Keep us posted.

I don't think it's a seat problem.  Took it off and re-mounted it.  Front post goes in the slot and the rear bracket lines up with the bolt, doesn't get much simpler than that.  I'll take it by the dealership and see if they can move the console back or something.

By the way, I was a little concerned by how easy it was to remove the saddlebags.  Probably need to invest in the saddle bag locks.

Looks exactly like my 07 RG did before I put the Corbin on it. Don't know what's up. Last year it was paint, maybe this year it's seats. Seems like every year the MoCo has something they eff up but good. I blame the bean counters. I am sure they bid out contracts for various parts every year or two at most and probably go with the low bidder. IMO

Gregg, that second picture is the rubber "flap" that hangs down off the bottom front of the dash in front of the tank.  If the dash were rearward as far as it should be that rubber flap would be all but touching the tank.  So the whole dash is toward the front of the bike too far.

Don,
The dash screws to tabs on the gas tank which do not have any fore/aft adjustment. If everyone with an 07 SERK is saying theirs is ok, then this one could be a real ass pain. Seems like you're theory is right, but for it to be off like that, the whole console would have to be off which could mean the mounting tabs are welded to the gas tank out of whack. The fix for this might well be a new gas tank.

I was wondering about exactly the same thing Brian.  Just because it looks like it is too far forward doesn't mean there's anything that's easily done about it.

The captured nut down at the bottom has some up and down slop. But up at the top it is where it is.  Hope we're just seeing it wrong.  But I was afraid too that this might actually be something of an ugly problem.

Hey, as an accountant I take great offense to that remark!  I have never told the MoCo to shortcut their quality to save a buck.  That desision comes from higher up.  Besides, we accountants are way too busy each day surfing the net and posting on message boards to dirty our hands with that kind of work.   ;)  LOL

Ghost,
Actually you are part of one of my favorite fantasies. I've always dreamed of being so rich I had to hire someone to count my money.  ;D

It sounds like from your posts on other threads (8 bikes in 7 years I think), you do have someone counting your money for you.  Dare I say your local H-D dealer!   ;) ;D

dereck,

I double checked my bike this weekend, and I do have what looks like the same amount of "gap" between the front of the tank, and the rubber on the console.  And, although I never really noticed it before, there is a small gap between the seat and the console.

I don't know if that makes you feel any better, or makes me feel worse, but that is how things are.

Ghost,
I'm taking it in on Saturday for the SERT and V&H slip ons and will ask them to take a look at the console.  More to follow.

I took it in for the 1,000 service and they didn't fix the gap.

Then I found the SERK3 service manual supplement.  I took off the console with a 1/2" wrench and 4mm hex.  On the underside, the wiring is held in place by some clamps.  I loosened the clamps with a T25 Torx, pulled the wiring harness through about 3/4".  Then I replaced the console.  The gap wasn't eliminated, but its much better than before.

I think it really stinks you had to do that yourself.  It seems the dealership could have at least tried to help you out and find/do that themselves.

Right, I'm changing service departments.  I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but now I've caught them on three different occasions telling me something that isn't exactly true.

I know there aren't a lot of CVOs out there, but if they aren't sure about something they should at least look it up before blowing smoke.   :deal:

Had no gap when I first read this thread. Since then a gap has developed. I noticed it after taking speedbumps to fast. I'm around 245 lbs. My feeling is that the seat frame itself is bending downward creating the gap.

Not the genuine PVC plastic seat pan?  That's what is happening, mine is incredibly loose.  I'll bend the front tab to tighten it up.

I have no gap on mine.  If I did I would be pissed and make them get me a new seat.  The dealer can warranty that as a bad fit/finish item.  Rich

30 years.   :2vrolijk_21:   Thats awesome.  I've been with my wife for 25 years (20 of it in Wedded bliss) and she still manages to pull sh** that just leaves me shaking my head saying, "I never saw that one coming."   ;D  Thats why I love my Harleys, I know exactly what I am getting into with them.  I don't have to worry about my bike changing color every couple of months like my wife's hair does.   :nixweiss:
