Title: Metal or rubber wheel valve stems?
Post by: 89fxrs on January 11, 2022, 04:58:50 PM
would like to get some feedback on metal vs. rubber valve stems - had my enforcer wheels chromed on a 2016 roadglide and after a couple of thousand miles developed a very small leak coming from the valve stem, so trying to decide if I should replace it with metal or the stock rubber ones -I'm guessing tat the metal ones would seal better because of the rubber grommet but not sure - that's why I'm looking for some experiences as well as feedback

This is sort of a non-answer but over my 60 years with Harleys I've not noticed any appreciable difference between inner tubes, rubber valve stems or metal ones with rubber washers. Any leakage around the valve was due to a defect in the wheel itself.

Harley didn't start TPMS until 2020 so nothing there to impact your choice.  Aside from that and those few wheel types that necessitate a bolt in valve stem I, also, never really saw any difference in longevity or other areas of concern.

The CVO bikes got TPMS before 2020.  I believe it was 2016 the first year.  I know for a Fact my 2017, my 2018 had it and my 2019 has it.

Yes correct. My 2015 didn't have it......my 2016 did have it.

Yeap.  Definitely.  CVO bikes got it earlier than the rest of the fleet.  Knew I should have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

It's an interesting night when you're listening to the voices.

I think the 90 degree stems are a great feature. Wish I had them on my 13'...
