Title: WFP For Chairman of Maggie Valley 2007 GTG
Post by: Fired00d on November 27, 2006, 07:17:53 PM
It has been determined that Bill (WFP) has a lot of time on his hand, and is great at planning out details for a trip (start reading this thread  from here for evidence -  Replace tire or wait till on trip (http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1164321280/18#18))

So all of those that think he would make a great Chairman and put this event together for 2007 vote appropriately above.

Bill, if you're not careful you will be elected by acclimation.  Happened to me when I was Director of our HOG Chapter in 2004.  Kinda went like this - all standing around and someone said "If you don't want to be director run like hell."  I tripped and was the last one out so I got the honor.  Just kidding but it is kinda like that.  Everyone is busy, busy, busy and want to enjoy but someone has to do the grunt work.  Looks like '07 may be your turn.  Good luck and you've got my vote, and most importantly support.  Let me know what I can do to help when you take this on.

Regards,

Jerry

Weird.  Just read this thread as it stands so far.  Bill commented.  But he didn't say no.  Lack of a denial being an affirmation I guess that means Maggie Valley 07 is going to be in New England.  Lots of beautiful rides in Bill's neck of the woods.  Seems like a plan.

May be a tour thru the Adirondacks in NY, across Vt, Kangamangas thru NH (and Mt Washington), across Maine to Bar Harbour would be a nice few day trip. Then spend a couple of days on the Me coast or maybe over to Nova Scotia by ferry then back thru Eastport, Me. I'd be up for something like that. Hoist!

Sept is a great time for any of these areas (after the summer Winnebago crowd leaves). If all of it is too long for just a GTG, then maybe combing 2 or 3 of them for a 1 week tour/GTG would work. Hoist!

Hey Bill, what is your idea of a small GTG? [smiley=nixweiss.gif] [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] Curious because didn't MV start out with like a dozen or so? And how many did we have this year? This site is getting bigger by the second, wonder how many will be there. If there is something around you I know I sure plan on making the trip!

It is an intersting balancing act since up here is more 'congested' than in Maggie Valley or Cripple Creek.  We would have to account for that in any decision...obviously, laconia and Lake George with their yearly rallies have the infrastructure already in place for one of our GTGs.  But we should not limit our options to just those...there are beautiful coastlines, rolling hills through farmland and other possibilities.

In general, what would people want from a Small GTG up here?  That would help narrow the choices that could be put up as options for a location.

Speak up...I am more of the engineer than the creative artist.

using MV as an example, a central location the offers up some 200-250 mile loops would be good, i cant think of one ideal location for that though

If I were able to attend I'd like to do the Kangamangus <sp> Highway, and would definitely have to get to the state of Maine someway/somehow. When I was at Laconia in '05 I didn't get a chance to get over there and I would hate to get that close again, and not get that state covered on my map.

How about 2 or 3 locations? Start at Lake George. Ride the Adirondacks thru the lakes toward Canada and stay overnight upstate NY. Ferry over to VT, ride thru VT to NH, Kangamangas and stay in NH. Third day ride to Mt Washington to Maine across the state and stay in Bar Harbour. 3 separate hotels instead of one central one. Everyone's got to be up for full days of riding if we do it like this. Or end it in NH and only have 2 hotels to deal with. My $.02. Hoist!

the downside of this is that there could be people trailering and for them, a central location would be better...but if it was a loop back to the starting point, then it could be possible.

Marlborough is fine,,, Hell I don't even know where that is but does it really matter?
