I should have been clearer. Without the TP installed, I would be installing in the fairing. I don't know where I could put the phone to get it closer if it won't pair while being on my body.

Chief

My BT is in the fairing. I put the antenna on top of the module towards the righthand side. I have no problem pairing at all. I have kept the phone on my belt, in the glove box and even in the TP and not lost the pairing. The only time it comes undone is when I walk away or turn off the bike.

I have both a Motorola V phone and a Treo 700W.  They both work and I find that although a bit of a hassle they pair best when I chuck them in the tour pak.  I have the stock Bluetooth location.

If it pairs, even without the phonebook, you should be able to use "Number Dial" with the bike's system and it dials through the phone.  Neither of my phonebooks from the phones sync, but I only care about receiving and calling home when I'm on the bike.  I can at least remember my home and work numbers.

Redial also works on my bike with the phones that don't sync the phonebook.

This is the problem!!! As I'm getting older, I'm starting to get Fired00d's disease (CRS). I can't remember anyone's #. That is why I purchased a new Nextel phone to be compatibile. I'll be checking out the razr tomorrow and update.

I have version 8.18 but haven't installed it yet. Not sure what has changed.

'HillBilly' did say that the new software version would be v8.19
But this guy may not ... Never mind, my mother told me not to say bad things.

I don't doubt what software version you have. What I am reporting is what an HD employee told me at their "seminar" on the "Harmon Kardon® Radio Accessories" at 11:00 on Wednesday in the Ocean Center. During this seminar which began about forty-five minutes late, this employee whom I did not want to say anything bad about could not tell me why a phone that is listed on the HD web page as being compatible with their Bluetooth Module would not work. He put the blame of incompatibility on the phone carriers. Upon his continuation of his demonstration, he was having a hard time placing a call with his own phone. He continued with this demonstration to show other features of the radio. At this time he then told the crowd of about 6 of us the new radio software would probably be released this week and that the version would be 8.19. Showing his lack of product knowledge, I did not put much value and consideration into what he said about the new software versions release date and further lack of knowledge of features.

Good one AJ!   :2vrolijk_21:   I was out in the shop doin the fairing stuff and  did check into the phonebook thing and  found that my older Motorola(verizon) model 8sixty-somethin? phone book is all there. now the razor dosnt seem to be and its cingular. i have yet to try to dld it. I do know that the ability to scroll thru the phonebook is limited to the buttons on the face of the HK and not avail  to do thru the thumb controls. Now the voice commands of the phones does allow scrolling so ??  i hope the new software corrects this.  Both phones pair at the same time and work all over the bike no matter where they are located in fact they work in a 12 ft radius of the bike.   I see a bit of a miscommunication going on there about info, could be a covalant color-match issue :nixweiss: :coolblue:

I'm liking the new map Gene. Adds a little color to your signature.  :2vrolijk_21:

My 3 pocket works!
« Reply #23 on: March 13, 2007, 11:10:16 AM »

I totally agree. We've taken a big step backwards in usability with this new bike. Smaller tourpak with more gadgetry to take up space, smaller TP rack and no windshield pouches. I'm not sure how we're going to carry the same amount we used to put on the previous bike.

The lower fairings would help, but I cannabalized them for speakers. That's my fault, maybe I'll make those hot-swappable for long trips when we'd have the TP installed.

My 3 pocket windshield pouch works on my 07 SE. I kept it from my 06UC, and it fit right on the new bike!!!

Did you have to "scrunch" it up much to get it to fit? I made a half-hearted attempt to get mine on, and it just didn't want to go easily, so I gave up. You've inspired me to try again.

Thanks,

Keith, no need to worry.

First, I never welcomed you to the site. Welcome! Second, did you notice any difference in the update? I doubt the HK updated software would have any influnce on the BT. I  would think that software resides in the BT module itself. Most have been using the 8.11 for several months so far and I haven't heard any complinats. I would assume that what ever changes they did may not be visible to the end user. AJ

p.s. That guys name from HD was 'HillBilly' on his name tag. I hope you didn't think I was referring to you.

AJ,

When read your post last night I did think you were refering to me. I should have read more carefully. And thanks for the welcome.

I have been running 8.11 for a while now and haven't had anything to bad going on. I loaded the 8.18 yesterday and honestly I couldn't see any difference. I know some have complained about their radios not coming up in the same mode after a power cycle but I can't say I've see the problem.

I do have a problem when listening to XM. If I shut the bike down and restart it, often the softkey information in the display does not appear. If I change modes, say hit the COM button and back the screen will show correctly. I had my radio replaced for this issue and it didn't fix it so I'm guessing it's a problem with the XM module.

I think you are spot on about the BT. That software is in the module, not the radio.

Again, sorry for my bad assumption.

I do have the problem of it not always coming back up where I left it when it gets shut down, so maybe this new rev. is a fix for some of those issues.

AJ...welcome to DSP.  You're in good company.

Coyote...Welcome to the site!!  Newbies can't be put on Double Secret Probation, as that privilege has to be earned, so you're good to go ;D  You will find this site generally very different than most of them on the web...everyone here gets along most of the time, even when discussing touchy subject matter.  Rarely does anyone intentionally flame someone, though Newbies are sometimes harassed just a bit to see what they're made of...seems you've passed the test and you didn't even know you were taking one... ;) 8)
