2005 License Plate Bulb

(1/4) > >>

mungam:
Been away for a bit and am trying to get the bike back on the road.  :jalapeno:
Went for the state inspection and was told it will fail because there is no license plate bulb.
Not sure if a prior owner changed out something on the rear fender or maybe these eyes are just getting older.
But I don't see where it would go.
Looked in the manual and got a part number 53436-97.
Looked at the HD site for the bike and the exploded view makes sense for where it should be but I don't see the same thing on the bike.

Thanks
Mungam

Twolanerider:

Hey Steve.  I just looked at the exploded view at Ronnie's online and I don't think it's right.  It's been a long time since I was that intimate with the ass end of my SEEG but I recall it being different.

This pic is my SEEG really early.  I don't think I'd changed anything in the ass end at this point.  The downward shining tag light is built in the signal cross bar.

Twolanerider:
And....  I used that same cross bar on my Road King when I built it.  Here's a pic I just took look up under.  You'll see two allen screws that hold the little light in place.  I'll dig around a bit more and try to find a part number for just that light.  Look up under yours and see if you see the same thing on your bike.

Twolanerider:
Ok, a few minutes later and here is more.  If your late is like mine the SEEG parts breakdowns don't look right for 2005; at least not according to my recollection and not relative to the pictures I've got.  The Street Glide started out using that same light and the 2007 exploded view for Street Glide shows what I think you're needing and what matches my Road King's picture.  Attached below the tag light is in the red circle and showed part number 69353-05.

Twolanerider:
Since thoroughness is next to... well... something I just checked and the light can still be ordered new from Harley.  $16 and some change.  If that's what yours has to change it my recollection is the whole housing comes off the fender.  Unless your hands are just too big that's not a big deal though.  Two bolts hold it to the fender and you can reach up between the tire and fender to get there.  You'll get skinned up just a little and you'll see some quantity of bad words during the effort.  But it's do-able and it's not really that bad.  Good luck :drink: .
