This is my story about how I came to own a '05 VRSCSE v-rod. I am an engineer and work at a fiberglass company in Tennessee. Our plant manager was retiring and decided to sell his prize possession, an electric orange and black vrod that had been absolutely pampered since day 1. He asked me to help him sell it on ebay, and during the discovery phase to accurately describe the bike, I thought I might be interested in the bike for myself. To make this part of the story short, I ended up buying the bike for a very reasonable price, and was indoctrinated into the Harley CVO family in the summer of 2007. The Vrod was encredible, and absolutely came alive above 6,000 rpm. Each day brought new thrills as I got to know the liquid cooled beast... then my story takes a strange turn.
My brother came home Iraq and bought an Electra-Glide Ultra, and we did some local touring. Rides over 60 miles seemed unbearable on the Vrod, and I felt as though I had been hit with a fire hose once we reached our destination. Meanwhile, he was cruizin' and smilin' the whole time with the tunes cranked...
I began to see how "impractical" the VRSCSE was, complained about the lack of storage, small gas tank, and no tunes... another long story short - I traded the rocket VRSC in on an electra glide standard for an even swap. I added a few goodies at the dealership, and I was literally "rollin' phat".
I rode my Pacific blue electraglide for a year, and my old VROD sat at the Harley shop, waiting for it's next owner. Visits to the Harley shop on occasion would catch me eye-ballin' my old ride. I would see someone sitting on it and wonder if they would be the next rider. About a year later when I took my electra glide in for my 1,000 mile service, I asked if I could test drive a nite rod special. The dealership was accomidating, but the nite rod sat me too upright in the saddle and over the handlebars, but it did bring back memories of my original harley. I then asked the dealership about riding my old V-Rod, which had been idle for over a year. They again were kind and entertaining, and 20 minutes later I rolled back into the dealership. The salesman asked me "how's that one feel", and I replied, "oh, that's the one brother". After checking the VIN number to see if it truly was my original bike, I made up my mind. So I bought my original harley back! Twice owned! And I love it... again. I am so glad that it didn't sell, and that I was able to get my first HD again. It cost me another $2800 bucks, but it was well worth it. Anyone ever done that before?
