Title: Harley 0369 Down
Post by: harley0369 on October 31, 2015, 10:34:20 PM
Inattentive motorist was cited for illegal left turn; here's hoping GEICO make a fair offer on the payout so we don't get into a stare-down

This is what's left of a 2013 CVO Road Glide after a inattentive motorist made an improper left turn into me last December on my way to work, I was travelling in the opposite direction from the final resting position of the bike.  I recovered every dime I paid for the bike plus the thousands in accessories and clothing.  No complaints about the GEICO claims process from me.   I'm insured with USAA/Progressive by the way.

Yikes; hope you are back to 100% in terms of the body and mind.  This was my fifth car/bike collision in 40 years and I've been fortunate enough to walk away from every one, but my trust in motorists continues to Zero. It was my wife's 1st and she's still on the mend, so not sure how she'll fare when we get back on the bike.

I'm hoping to get a fair offer, but decided I'd rather pull off about $3,500 of the $4,100 in aftermarket parts and accessories instead of hoping to get full value and then going through the buying / custom painting process all over again since we plan on finding an identical '13 FLHRSE5 as a replacement, i.e., everything coming off of Blue will go on Blue II.

I've been insured by State Farm since '75 and they've been less than impressive at every step. GEICO has been pretty good so far, but we've still got a long way to go; fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear about this..... terrible. I hope it all goes well for and the Mrs. I have seen a few of those bikes in your color blue on Ebay and Cycle Trader. I'm confident you'll find another one at a good price! Good luck and keep us posted.

I know that you know you're a very lucky guy!  Very fortunate personal injury wise and the payoff on your bike and accessories and clothing.  Very, very fortunate. :2vrolijk_21:

Good report on Geico also.  My insurance is due in about six weeks and I've stayed with Allstate because they've paid so quickly and fairly on two accidents (one was totaled).  But they are pricey.  So I've been thinking about possibly switching to Geico.

No escaping them here in San Diego.....the headquarters for Geico.  Everyday they have a plane flying around San Diego pulling an old worn out banner.  What a job for that pilot.....just go fly around at low elevation every day randomly.

You were very fortunate, brother!  I hope your recovery was swift and 100%.
I too, am with USAA Progressive, and they treated me awesome back in late '10 when I totalled my Harley also.

Fortunate indeed! Walked/crawled away from the hit, suffered a broke ankle and road rash. 100% now.
