Title: My New Ride
Post by: ultrafxr on September 19, 2016, 10:47:27 PM
Got it today - finally.  Dealer was kind enough to hold for me for 10 days while we were waiting on ESP to approve major engine repair on my 2012 CUSE7 so we could effect the trade.  Geez this was worse than buying my first house but I guess the wait was worth it.  After four major engine failures on two bikes with 110 motors I just figured it was time to move on.  Hope it wasn't from the frying pan into the fire, lol.  Don't think so . . . and this is one handsome motorcycle - Palladium Silver and Phantom Blue with Wicked Sapphire.

BTW Bumpus H-D in Jackson, TN,  has its sister available for sale - Stardust Silver and Palladium Silver with Carbon Dust.  Give Scott Bumpus or David Harris a call if interested - 731-422-5508.  Tell 'em Jerry sent you.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks everyone.  Spent last evening getting some of my 'must have' items on the bike to make it more rideable for me - footboard extensions, angle highway peg mounts, extended shift levers, etc.  Now I'm trying to figure out this infotainment system.  That's going to take a while for sure.   :2vrolijk_21:

:2vrolijk_21: Fun setting a new bike up like you want it. It took a while to figure out the old HD radio.  Good luck on figuring out the newfangled Infotainment screen.  Some electronics just seem to be more difficult than others, and HD seems to prefer that type for some reason.  :nixweiss:

Hang in there with the infotainment. I rented a Ultra Limited last year for a week. It was a little frustrasting at first. Particularly with some hand controls reversed from right to left. But over the course of the week the organization of the menus and controls slowly started to make sense. We rode 200 miles a day and it really didn't start to become intuitive for me until just before I turned the bike in! But the new infotainment was one of my motivations for a new bike. I was just waiting for a new engine to push me into a new bike. Looking forward to joining you next month when my bike comes in.

All the new infotainment systems in vehicles seem to be overly complex from what I've read.  My newest vehicle (well other than my motorcycle, lol) is a 2006 so no infotainment system there.  I've heard that Ford and Mercedes customers have complained about their systems - and many others as well I imagine.  When trying to be all things to all people it can get a bit deep to say the least.  Hopefully, I'll master the basics quickly so at least I can listen to music and navigate, lol.

Bill, it really is a stunning bike.  I've always been partial to the H-D official black and orange and the 2012 is a beaut.  Always been partial to the moco offical black and orange colors but I'm really digging this silver and blue.  You will also.   :2vrolijk_21:

Congrats, Jerry!  Great looking bike!  I agree it's time to move on.  Be interesting to see how this one serves you, if nothing else.

My eyes are probably just playing tricks on me, but it sure looks like the tour-pak LEDs are wrapped around and sitting on top of the rear lid hinge.  Say it isn't so.

Please say it ain't so!! Anyone able to post pics of a another 2017 CVO Limited TP hinges to see if this is a one-off or a TP LED mounting template issue? It should be an easy fix but may require drilling new mounting holes for the TP LED. It looks like its mounted abit too high on the TP.

True, I have 3 newer vehicles, all different brands, all the "radios" were no fun to learn beyond basics.  No pattern either, all 3 are different & have individual quirks.  You will figure out what you need to work & how to work it, just wishing the process was simpler here.

A very beautiful bike!

Congratulations!  She is a beaut! I just use the basics on the info system (radio and nav). When planning on a longer trip I refresh my memory a little since I will be changing stations and media etc.  I like the navigation and just took the time to set the basics up to match what I like.  Good luck and I can't wait to hear how she does!

I photo shopped that pix just to see who the eagle eye would be that caught it, lol.  Well other than I don't have photo shop and wouldn't know how to use it I have no explanation other than an optical illusion due to the angle of the shot I guess.  Anyway you can clearly tell here that the hinge is not under the LED bar - thanks goodness!

Hehe!!  Really weird!
Brian, if you look at the photo I took from the side you can see that the lower half of the hinge (which is attached to the bottom of the tour-pak) does not protrude outward nearly as much as the top.  I think the photo being at an angle from the left and the smaller lower half of the hinge combined to create the illusion.  But I agree - it is weird.

Spent the morning finishing up getting the bike set up the way I like it and learning the basics of the gps.  So this afternoon got to go riding.

Man, oh man, I am digging this bike!  I've test ridden a few Rushmore models over the last couple of years but not much saddle time to really tell all that much about them.  But this '17 is just awesome - much more power than my stock 2012 110" and a lot cooler.  The suspension is very much improved over any stock Harley I've owned.  No front end dive and the rear is light years better than the standard old air shocks that came before.  The bike seems heavier than my '12 when I lift it upright from the jiffy stand but once I get going it is very, very nimble and the handling is confidence inspiring.  No mountain twisties around here but we do have some curvy roads and I took them effortlessly at a higher speed than before.

Even the gps proved to be very accommodating and I had no problems with the route.

We're headed out of town Thursday for a 4-day weekend so I'll get to test it out some more.   :2vrolijk_21:

Biran, it may not be heavier.  Maybe it is just that the bike is different.  In any case it wasn't anything to be all that concerned about.  Just a bit different than my '12.  May be because of the different handlebars.  Don't know for sure.  If an old scrawny guy like me can do it you can to!  No worry.   :2vrolijk_21:

A little heavier then your 2012. The 14's and up twin cooled models do tip the scale a bit more.

Missed this yesterday Jerry.  Congrats and glad you guys look so happy.  It has to be a good feeling to be not just running but riding away from all your 110 nightmares.

So NOW are you still sure you're not riding to BBBQ Saturday  :) :drink: ?

Wish I were.  Had planned to do so months ago.  But there is another event mama wants to attend this weekend (we are leaving tomorrow and back home on Sunday) and whatever mama wants, mama gets.   :2vrolijk_21:

Sorry I'll miss you guys.  BBBBQ is high on my list of 'to do.'  So I definitely hope to be there next year.

For sure.  But also anxious and apprehensive over ESP.  They were notified on Sep 6th and it took them until the 17th to even get an inspector to the dealership to look at the bike - and this is after ESP told them to tear it down all the way to splitting the cases.  Then two more days before an approval of repair authorization.  The dealership was great but they were being reserved (to say the least) as to whether ESP would approve or not.  I understand dealer cannot go out on a limb to speak for ESP but there was absolutely no way ESP could deny coverage on a bone stock bike well maintained.  Nonetheless until they finally gave authorization it was pins and needles time for sure.  Geez, glad that is behind me.  I've had my fill.

Had the bike out for its first road trip this this past weekend.  We rode just shy of 1,000 miles and I was very favorably impressed with the bike.  Some of the improvements I noticed were / may be common to all the Rushmore models but were new to me.  Some were particular to the 17s.

The wind management was excellent with no buffeting and less wind noise than the pre-Rushmores.  Even opening the wing vents to allow more air did not result in as much turbulence as I have previously experienced.

The infotainment is a huge improvement over the H-K radio imo.  TMPS is a nice feature.  The only shortcoming is the gps unit but that is a different subject entirely!

Suspension and ride quality on this 17 is light years ahead of anything I've experience on any of my previous four CVOs in stock form.  It was compliant, confidence inspiring and the ride quality is good enough that I doubt we will retrofit our Legend shocks.  And that is saying a lot as my co-rider is very particular about ride quality.

The new Milwaukee 8 motor is smooth, responsive and quiet . . . too quiet I know for many but it is fine for me.  There is a nice exhaust note when you get on it a bit but at idle and cruising it is pretty quiet.  Didn't have a chance to really wring out the motor for comparison with the 110 as I will when mama is not with me but it is plenty strong.  May drop off a bit at higher rpm vs the 110 but couldn't tell for sure and it may be because it is so darn smooth the visceral feeling is not as pronounced under heavy acceleration.  I looked at the speedo and was surprised I was going that fast.

All in all I made a great choice and really, really like this bike.   :2vrolijk_21:

Picked mine up from Daytona Beach. Traded in on new toys, the bike only had 51 miles on it when I bought it. Previous owner had already did dealer installed 117 kit and put on Reinharts. It Silver and Palladium Blue.  I've been waiting 20 years for this bike. When I see it in my garage, I still can't believe its mine.  Had it now for a month and after todays ride with my wife, Ive put on 1900 miles.
