Title: 2013 ultra seat
Post by: ultra13 on January 23, 2017, 08:28:22 PM
Not too long ago I read about someone talking about wanting to upgrade their 2013 CVO Ultra on a new CVO. They had mentioned about the 2013 seat tearing or coming apart. Unfortunately I lost that page and don't remember who it was. I would really like to find out or hear from you about this subject. I also have the same bike and my seat is coming apart also. Not getting a lot of help from H/D either.

Thanks...

Has any one had problems with their CVO seat? My Ultra is 4 years old and the CVO seat is coming apart at the seams. Not getting any headway with H/D customer service or area dealerships...Area bike seat repair shops won't touch it because it is a "heated" seat. Says possibility of braking heated elements and the switches....I really don't want to spend $900 for a new seat!

Not sure if this is the thread you are speaking of/looking for but is what I found when I searched for "seat" (regarding stitching) in this board - flhtcuse6 seat stitching coming apart (https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=96098.0). There is also discussion in threads that came up when searching for seat about vendors not wanting to deal with and/or reupholster heated seats.

If you have the extended warranty they will replace it if the heated seat quits working! My 2011 CVO Ultra seat was replaced once by the dealer in about 2012 because it was tearing. I have had the seat replaced again 2 years ago because it quit heating. No problem getting it replaced through ESP. Short out the heater & you should be able to get the new seat you want.

No luck on ext. warranty. Bought it from orig. owner with normal 2 yr warranty. Can't believe these seats are coming apart the way they are. I had a 2000 Ultra for 11 years and the seat looked new when I sold it....Crap!

Part number 52000029  Seat, CVO Ultra 2013.  MSRP = $1236, discount dealers approx. $1000.

Considering the number of stock seats that failed, and not knowing if Harley and it's supplier ever fixed the problem, I wonder if buying a new one would be a wise decision.  I think I'd at least investigate some aftermarket offerings from reputable companies that actually stand behind their products.

I agree there. I would have to buy the seat and Pass. backrest to match.....Disgusted when you pay $37,000+ for a bike and the damn seat is coming apart in less than 4 years.

I couldn't get the one on my '12 replaced when it was still under factory warranty.  Noticed a couple of tears in its seat, but because I didn't see them before I took delivery (they're on the low side), was told I was SOL because they didn't meet Harley's definition of a cosmetic defect (not large enough).  Thankfully, they haven't gotten any larger over the years, but that still pisses me off.

The front seams on both sides of the seat on my 2013 began to split last year.  I spent months trying to get Harley to authorize a repair or replacement, but they refused to help me.  The seams were obviously coming apart due to structural flaws & could not take the strain of the weight of a normal size human.  I finally took the seat to a local leather shop, and they repaired it for $225, which is about $1000 less than Harley quoted me for a new seat.  Attached are before & after photos.

That's truly a bummer.  When I bought mine a couple of months ago, they gave me a new one (bike was repo'd previously and had another seat I didn't like).  I've seen a few tear-free used ones on ebay for $150-200.  May be something to look into.

WOODE, how did your shop deal with the toggle faceplate? The place I took mine to said the faceplate for the heat toggles would break removing it and Harley don't sell them separate, and they were not wanting to be liable if one of the heating elements broke....

Ultra13, I have no idea.  The shop owner did not mention any problems in removing the vinyl from the seat or replacing & reassembling everything.  My assumption is that nothing broke during the process since the controls are still perfectly firmly attached to the seat.  Is it possible that the vinyl can be removed with the switch assembly remaining attached to the vinyl?
