Title: My 2012 RG almost back in action!
Post by: SDCVO on January 26, 2017, 11:55:25 PM
Just found out that after waiting for a few months, my new 124hc blacked out motor is finally on its way. Back in the fall I found out my 124 in my 12 Roadglide case was cracked and the crank trashed. When I was trying to figure out if I should rebuild or replace my dealer told me S&S was going to start selling a blacked out version (I had powder coated old motor) in Nov which now had a 24 month warranty. I decided it made more sense to wait for the new version (blacked out) then rebuild the old one especially since I just got the 17 Streetglide. Obviously it didnt come out in Nov and I was starting to get pissed as time went on. Called S&S last week and they told me they were having issues with powder coating quality and it may be another month before receiving. I very politely "raised hell" and all of a sudden go a call today from my dealer saying it was shipped yesterday and they had a tracking number and expect it Tuesday. If all goes well they said I would be breaking it in next weekend.
Though I really do love my new SG and the new M8 motor (especially with the 117 kit) it still does not run like the 124 which is definitely a E ticket ride! Cant wait to have both my babies "under the covers" in my garage at the same time..

I feel for you Alan.....seems like you have the worst luck when it comes to these bikes.

Sunny and in the 70s this weekend.  Rain forecasted for next Sat.  :nixweiss:  Maybe squeeze in some rides back and forth to work during the week to get those break in miles. Or, just take a day off from work and get r done!

Hoping "issues" behind me now and happy to be starting over with a new motor. Sucks it will rain next Sat but hopefully will be clear following weekend. To hard for me to ride during the week because of being "tethered" to my phone but though I hate breaking in new motors and keeping the revs down (definitely won't be able to follow you around..), really looking forward to playing after its all done. I was afraid with my new bike I wouldn't have been able to keep up with you!

Alan, except for Fullsac header and baffles and TTS tuner, my bike is totally stock!  No cams, no head work.....nothing else.

Its Back! Finally got it back today. I love my new 17 Streetglide but I got to say when I fired up that new 124 with the Boarzilla's today I was one happy boy! Had the dealer drop it off at my work so all I could do was fire it up today but will bring it home after work tomorrow and get breaking it in on Sat. Good times!

500 miles last weekend, oil change this week. Hopefully will be able to get another 500 in this weekend and another oil change then I can really start to have some fun with it. I was worried the tune would be off but at least at break in running at ran great and my "seat of the pants" dyno couldn't tell any difference. Kept the revs under 3500 as much as I could (tough) for the first 500, will raise that to around 4000 this weekend. Having a ball!!

I would never have the patience to go that slow with a break in.   Rings seated at 50 miles....the best I've ever done on a new bike is 250 miles and that was tortureous.  :P

Yea, did 425 miles today and "was good" for about the first 100 then I was done watching the tach. Didn't "wring its neck" but had some fun. Going to change the oil next week and then its "Katy bar the door"...
