Nope....that's way too much, that's going to round off the sprocket.

Should be a window in the belt guard that has some marked graduations on it. Check that amout of deflection in that window but I will have to pull the service manual when I get home to tell you the amount of force for the deflection

i have 6 maybe 7 marks of  play looking at that window,...  at least 1/2 in , cold belt , on the jiffy stand

Harley sells a little belt tension gauge, pretty cheap, if you don't feel confident doing it by sight and feel. Also YouTube is your friend here. I didn't look but I am sure if you do a search there is a Tech showing you how to do this in depth video.

The last spec change I can remember occurred for the 2007 model year.  Unless it was changed again between 2008 and 2010, the spec for a 2010 FLHX is 1/4" - 5/16", measured at the midpoint of the lower strand of the belt while applying a 10 pound force.  A belt tension gauge is the most accurate way to do this.  You can do the measurement either on the jiffy stand or with the bike upright.

This measurement is one of the many things H-D that I just don't get - the fall away for front end adjustment being another example.  So let's see"  1/4" is 4/16" so the slack in the belt is between 4/16" and 5/16"!  Wow a grand total of 1/16" slack.  I just don't think it is possible to measure the darn thing with that much precision.  I've found on all the new H-Ds I've bought that the belt is really tight and that would coincide with the spec.

A key point here is that there is no "slack". Slack implies "loose". The belt is not to be loose, at all. If you can deflect it by just touching a finger on it, it's way loose. The spec has varied but not a bunch. 7/16 - 5/8 deflection with ten pounds force applied at the window location, on the jiffy stand (I think) the window marks are 1/8". Ten pounds is a bunch more finger effort than you might guess.

Let me add that the numbers others have posted do appear in the 2010 manual as shown
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170305/36b97951d74948f7a108dfa48a0a387d.jpg)

But I've been told by HD techs, and read it somewhere that I cannot find right now....
That the "new spec" was 7/16-5/8

*EDIT since I can't back this up in writing, take it with as many grains of salt as required*

I can tell you that meeting that 1/4" spec takes some serious effort.

Right you are.  The word I should have used is 'deflection.'  I have the gauge and it does take a bit of effort to push with ten pounds effort and then to hold that steady while you check the deflection.  It is darn difficult to measure the deflection in such a small increment.
