Anyone can own one (well I am sure CA and IL have some issues). $200 stamp and you are good to go.

I don't see the prices dropping even if they pass the law to remove silencers from the NFA.  They're well worth the "hoops" to get one.  It's easy, just buy, fill out the forms, pay the $200 tax and wait for it to be approved.  It's actually easier than your CCW permit, it just takes longer to be approved.

I am a FFL with license to also do silencers. I agree with you, very easy to buy legally.

The wait really sucks right now. I bought one last May and just got to pick it up last month. 293 days from when they cashed my check!

I had to laugh, the title thru  me.   I thought, what part of motorcycling required conjugal visits?   I remembers having to wait for my cans and having to go do some conjugal visits.  One word of note.  Be sure and to clean them before you put them back in the jail cell.  I used both of mine 5 or 6 times and they almost seized solid so I could not get them apart to clean.    I found that cleaning them and putting FireClean on all threads and friction surfaces would make a "YUGE" difference in how easy they are to take apart and also made cleaning them easier.     

Oh the wait is a pain!    I can tell you now, you will never regret getting them.   I am at the point I only want to shoot suppressed!    I can not tell you how much more pleasant is to shoot my 300 WinMag,  Lower recoil and no more concussion when shooting in a semi enclosed environment.

Two of mine are on ARs (5.56) which have no recoil from the start so that is not an issue, but I like to not make to much noice for my neighbors. And getting back to pricing, if you buy from your local GS it will be expensive. Manufacturers direct is cheap. If (and I will be surprised if they do) the law changes prices will go down probably 20-30%, si ply because of volume and competition.
