Topic: Cyl. Head bolt bridge (07 110) (Read 5241 times)

Has anyone tried to put on the cylinder headbolt bridge H-D #43859-00 or #43858-00 ? I have the latter on my 03 RK...I tried them on my 07 CUSE and the spark plug appeared off center of the bridge opening.(wouldn't get the plug boot on)
I thought I noticed a bike on this site with them on it???

Anyone else tried this?

I have the silver finned bridges on my bike, and know of several others who have them on theirs as well with no problems. The chrome ones say not to use on bikes with lower fairings due to heat issues.

Do you have a 110??
At the dealer I was showing the parts guy. We took a set off the shelf and they fit on an 07/96 CI...they had an 07 CVO Springer and it appeared off center on it, although it was hard to tell because of the chrome headbolt caps it comes with. This made me wonder if the 110 head was different in its geometry?? Maybe the compression releases alter things??

That's a worry - I'd planned on having those! Will it be possible to Dremel (have Dremel, am dangerous!

) them to allow them to fit?

It was clearing the plug, but JUST. You would have to shave the thickness of the boot.

I'm almost positive I noticed an 07 CUSE with them on in a post of a differant topic. That's why I was surprised when they didn't???
I guess we will have to wait and see if someone else HAS done it and how they did.

I am not sure if my bike was the one you are thinking of or not, but I do have 43859-00 installed on my SERK. I did not install them myself, I had the dealership do it when the bike arrived. You know, becuase of that 2 year warranty thing.

Anyway, they did not mention any issues about installing them, and they appear fine to me. I will double check when I get home tonight.

I am at work, so I can not resize the picture, maybe someone could help.

As the picture shows you can make the black ones fit. I tried the chrome ones and it would have been to much effort to modify. Maybe MOCO will someday realize they are making a 110" motor and start making accessories for it. [smiley=book2.gif]

It was the chrome ones I tried too, but it was also the chrome ones that I recall seeing on the post??? Maybe some mods were done?

I have the black head bolt bridge on my 07 SEUC and I left the origional head bolts in place and put the provided head bolt covers on with no problem over the chrome origionals. then place the bridges as stated. there are different front and rear bridges, so look inside the bridge to make sure you are putting the right one on the right head.

No Mods needed

Maybe I can help. I have them on my bike and if you look on the backside of each they are marked front and rear. If you swap them I believe you will have the problem you describe here.

If you look on the HD website at the CVO accessories, the head bridges are in there. I bought a set and they fit really nice. No problems what-so-ever.

Red..you bought the chome set or the black ones. It appears the black ones fit, but it looks like I'm not the only one that had problems with the chrome set.
Yes I realize there is a differance from front to rear cylinder.
I was looking at my cylinder heads tonight and the spark plugs on my heads are FOR SURE not center to the head bolts. For example, the rear cylinder plug is off center in toward the rear of the bike.
Perhaps the opening in the finned bridges is larger, allowing the plug boot to still fit. [smiley=confused5.gif]

The silver set would be the same as your black. Its the chrome ones in question. The book says not to be used with lowers.(#43858-00)
I'm sure that it is a heat thing. I prefer the look of the chrome ones.

Sorry about that...I'm going to be a real dumba$$ here and state that I didn't even know there were chrome ones available. I don't know how much difference chrome ones would be over the powder-coated aluminum ones as far as retaining heat, but they aren't that big that it should be a substantial difference with lowers on. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

The chrome ones are not finned...more like a cover. They would hold more heat compared to the finned ones, but my dealer didn't think that it would be a big deal either...IF THEY WOULD FIT. [smiley=confused5.gif]

I put true duals on my bike, IMHO I think the heat I lost there will be more than what I would gain with those covers. My dealer agreed.

I think the finned ones would actually benefit the heads, I just have the OCD thing goin.

The suggestion for avoiding the chrome bridges with bikes that are equipped with lowers is due to decreased air flow over the heads not so much because of increased heat trapped by the bridges which would be negligible. The chrome would be susceptible to peeling off due to the heat.

I'm not so sure that would be an issue FB. The head bolts are chrome as well as all your exhaust shielding. I would think they would see more heat than these shields. I have had the chrome bridges on a RK for 4 years with no color change let alone peeling. They are fairly hefty covers, not a light gauge tin. They may even be a cast aluminum. I am at work and can't verify that right now.

Agree that it's more a concern of trapping heat around the plug than anything else...guess someone would need to shoot them with a heat gun to see if there was a difference...I've got the finned ones on my bike...

With the vented lowers, probably not as much an issue except stop and go traffic...

I think I will wait and see what comes out at the end of the month. I too was informed of this.
Maybe they will make a new bridge that we analyse.

I have snow on the ground, so really not in a big hurry to fill this spot yet.

When I purchased my headbolt cover I put a chrome and a black on each head and I personally liked the black better with the black engine. I was also told by the tech that the chrome headbolt covers do not fit over the Screamin Eagle spark plugs, or any high performance plugs. So that solidified my decision

Nothing came out at the dealer show, so I went with the black bridges. I am happy with the look and I honestly think they may help dissipate heat.

I put the black headbolt cover on mine too. I prefer the look of them and it fills up that gap around the plug nicely.

Ernie,
They are also bored for a standard sparkplug so if you put Screamin Eagle plugs in your bike you have to either hunt down a thinwall deepwell socket or grind one down. The SE plugs have the same thread size but take a larger socket for the hex nut built into the plug - - - - now will someone explain why to me please ?
