Seat question
« on: January 20, 2007, 04:45:30 PM »

I still ride with the stock seat on  my FLSTFSE2 and i am looking for a seat.I was hoping for a passenger backrest seat from MOCO for this year but they dont have one as of yet.I am considering deep bucket or tall boy.I am 6'2" so would i be comfy on a tallboy?I sure could use some stretch.Anyone ever used one?Looking for some advices. Thanks [smiley=drink.gif]

I had a deep bucket, I'm 6'1" and and pushed me about a inch forward. I was able to return it and I ended up with an '07 seat, I cant remember if it is a badlander or what it is, it's a little cold here, havent sat on it in a bit.  If you go with an 07 moco seat you'll be fine, dont order an 06 seat, they dont fit.  I had to return a couple to figure that out.  I do have a detatchable back rest on mine though.  It works well.  You can see a picture of mine in the " nacelle finally completed" category, it a couple down from yours.  We have the same color scheme.

There have been many posts regarding a replacement seat since I lurked, then joined here.
Some great replacement options from different suppliers around the USA.
But, has anyone found a replacement seat that fits within the chrome saddle trim of the SEFBs.
Even Lepera seemed to be interested in the beginning, asking for a seat sample to work with as a mock up, then that seemed to fizzle out.
Or, is the only option still to have your original seat rebuilt??
Thanks!

mine is a Mustang (front passenger is 15" wide).  But not sure if it will work with your height.  I am 5'7".

Hey noVee, I spent considerable time with LePera to do just that, but in the long run, Christine said they were not interested in working with the SEFB saddle because their research showed that their own saddle frame (or pan) is far superior to that of the HD manufacturered one. And they are right.

I worked with a couple of the local and much smaller manufactuters here in the Los Angeles Basin to get results that were still not up to the quality of the LePera two up seat I purchased. LePera seats are top notch, and you pay top dollar as well. My two up was over $800,00 and equal in dollar value.

My upgraded HD Saddle was definitely worth sourcing out and patterns and design options are endless with the right vendor.

Upgrade your seat with the millenium foam and you won't regret it; ya keep what looks great and it's far easier on the rear end when you decide to go past the sports bar and claim 100's of miles in a day.

Altugo,
I bought a tallboy back in Oct 2005 & had it for a day before I returned it. I sat really high on it & it made my bike look like crap but I suppose it was comfy & the pillion was huge. (believe it or not most of the things I do to my bike are for looks)
Anyway I still don't mind the stock seat & the pillion (well I guess I just dont sit on the pillion!)

When I first got my SEFB I hated the stock seats lack of comfort. But I still love the way it looks. I baught this Mustang seat an use it sometimes. Its comfy as hell but does not look quite as good as the stocker.

I have since grown to find the stock seat plenty comfortable. It took getting used to. After owning the bike for two years now I have grown quite fond of this stock look.

I have 4 seats Altug, and as you say " I could use some stretch", My favorite is my Corbin Hollywood Solo for just that reason, it sets you down and back and lets you "STRETCH" out. I think the most comforatable 2 up is the mustang 2 piece, but for both comfort and looks that Lapera Kona has the "sorrento" is really hard to beat. plain its only like 350.00...

Well Mike,

You and I both know that the Silver is the fastest color. The pigment for some reason is slicker than the other colors. The Fatboy was made to be Silver. The first ones to roll off the assembly line in 1990..............yup.......silver. The 15th Anniversary color........you guessed it.........silver!

BTW Mike that's a pretty awesome skoot you got there yourself. I especially like the tail light! ;D

Hey novee, Did you find a seat yet?  I ride a SEUC but am trying to wrangle an SEFB2 as I write this.  I can't make up my mind on colors.

Anyhow I was reading through some posts and found mention of Aligator Bobs.  He has some real bitchin seats.  I really like the look of the stock seat with the chrome too.  I want to ride solo.  I want a seat with a detachable back rest in the stock configuration.

Check him out maybe he can help.  Remember you get what ya pay for.  Good luck

Thanks for the tips guys.I must agree that silver looks awesome on Fatboys.Nothing beats the stock look.A friend is building a custom bike for me and there i saw some seats with gel padding and they looked like Alligator Bob style.I saw some with patterns and snake skins and all that.Once I get my new bike wich wont be before april i will try the gel seat and will maybe add some gel padding on my stock seat.I can do 300+ miles a day wich would be 500km i guess and i dont have a big problem.I was thinking of the tall boy for extra lenght and strech but it sure looks like crap.Tnued do you have the pics with the corbin hollywood? :drink:

Altug, I'll get you a picture of it with the Mustang 2 up 2 piece next weekend, doesnt look real good but the comfort is second to none in my opinion. I have rode 400+ with no real comfort issue. The Corbin Hollywood is my choice 250 or less in a day. sets you low and back.

Looking good Jim! & those bars are awesome as well. FYI you should keep the welded areas polished or waxed to avoid any chance of rust forming. I don't have a problem but I see a lot that do start to rust in these areas but they are mostly on bikes which are ridden daily & very rarely cleaned or detailed!

Aussie,

I have been contemplating the bitch seat issue for a while now, and the bolt on pillion just don't work for me. Its like a sick growth stuck to the chrome, and it just don't flow with the lines of the bike for me.

it just don't flow with the lines of the bike,

so I'm leaving the OEM seat with da chrome swantz in tack and getting a Corbin gunfighter w/wildfire seat stitch and red flames, I think it works for me, the bike, and has a great custom look for a little over the price of the stocker.

Lookin very smooth Eagle, looks like its all about you though. Room for 70 beers & all that back support! The bitch seat looks good but where does she land her feet? (Or are the rear pegs stage 2 of this project) She also needs long legs (thats a bonus) to get around that pouch on the front of the bags.

Cheers

Aussie, yes I will be getting some rear pegs soon, I was trying to get the highway bar issue resolved and then buy two sets of matching pegs. the little pouch is a "hang on" so when I have a passenger, I can just pull it off and stow it in the big bag, as long as they are not full of BEER.  :bananarock:

Hey Eagle nice setup there. What brand are the bags and are they detachable without the saddlebag backings left on the bike? Can i use em with deatchable sissy bar?I already relocated the signals. As far as the seat gpes i guess its the best one up to date i think ill get one.Since i have a custom made bike now i want to make the fatboy more of a tourer and that seat looks good and with the back rest is just what i want. :drink:

I'm leaving the OEM seat in tack when I want to run solo and got a Corbin gunfighter w/wildfire seat stitch and red flames & backrest, for touring, I just came back from trying it out and i couldnt be happier.

If your lookin for quick detachable bags, check out Boss Bags when, you pull of the bags there is only two mounting posts on the strut very clean. yes you can use them with the detachable sissy bar as well.

look back, and you will find the original threads where they talk about the bags and the seat. I have my CVO brothers to thank for steering me in the right direction on both  :beerchug:  Thanks Bro's :beerchug:

Hunter,
looks like you have been MIA for more than a year! Welcome back. You must have been out clocking up miles on that fine example of a fat boy! As for your seat I'm not too sure what I think but I don't really think it is for me, looks like it gives your back support. Is that storage in the back? Surely you don't mount a passenger up there. But the bottom line is if you like it on your bike thats all that matters.

Cheers

It's Corbin's Rumble Seat. Supposed to be like the old hot rods. That back piece folds up to expose the passenger seat, and the fold up part becomes the passenger backrest.

Hey Mike, do you have everything you need on the diagrams now?

The seat has good back support. The passenger seat isn`t very large but big enough. The passenger seat is only as wide as the fender. I like the seat. They are the scream`in eagle pipes

This may be a bit late but I've been MIA from this forum for a while. I took my stock SE Fatboy seat apart myself and scooped out some of the foam and added a Saddleman Gel Pad to the inside. Then I added a 1/2 inch of Pudgie foam, the kind of foam that's used in wheel chairs and some manufactor's motorcycle seats. After doing this and getting it all back together the stock seat is now very comfortable. And yes, the pipes on Aussie's bike are the Screamin Eagle Pro 16 gauge double barrell's. I have the same pipes on mine along with the race tuner kit. Every where I go everyone tells me they sound awesome, like a Fatboy should sound. Nice and deep with a great rumble to them. However for traveling I use a Corbin Gunfighter seat so I can add my saddlebags. The bags won't fit with the stock seat, the chrome shroud comes down and back too far. These are HD's Bad Boy bags from the mid 90's. I found them at an up state cycle shop that was having a clearence  sale. The bags were brand new, still in the HD box with the tags still attached. I thought they fit the looks of the bike just fine. However it wouldn't hurt for them to be a bit larger. They attach by using the bare back's attachment kit. http://www.cyclevisions.com/barebacks.html Here's a pic of the bike with the corbin seat and bags. :) Sandy

Thanks a bunch Aussie. I love this bike and other than the seat that I swap out every now and then and the exhaust pipes I haven't done much else. Did add a few things like the low profile windshield, smaller grips for my small hands and a lay down license plate holder and of course my ride bell. Thinking of adding a few other nice pieces of chrome here and there in the future.

Your bike looks great too, love that corbin seat. I thought about adding that one, but I never carry a passenger. Sandy

Reo, You sound like a man that speaks from experience, when I got mine and  dropped it int place, the first thing I noticed was that the rubber pads didn't sit on the protective film, so I took these "Chicago Bears" vinyl window stickers that just statically stick to the glass and cut a couple of strips to sit on each side of the fender and I'm good to go. It was quite a sacrifice for a true bears fan, but a man's got to do what a Man's got to do. :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:

I never put a Corbin on my sefb but have had experience when I had one on my BMW. I remember one of my other friends here John (rainman now no-rain) had a problem and he posted here quite some time ago. If you look at some of the old post's here 2 years ago you will find John and I were spending quite a bit of time here getting our sefb's to were we wanted them. It's interesting seeing some of you guys doing the same kind of mods we were doing. Too bad the forum got broken ruining a lot of those old post's, I am spending more of my time these days trying to get my seeg where I want it going through old posts, but its fun remembering the sefb mods from back then.

Very witty seeing the contact of those bumpers hitting the unprotected fender EAGLE1. Being a fellow Bears fan I can appreciate the position you were in, good to see you got your priorities in order.

I'ts nothing special really, just your typical great room floor plan with a wood burning fireplace, the outhouse is only 50 yrds away, the hand pump well is near by, the windows can be a bit drafty, but there is two grills out back and a smoker.  :bananarock:  :drink: :drink:

My Corbin seat hasn't been a problem making any marks what so ever. However my stock chrome seat has even with the protective coating under neath. I got our body shop to wet sand and buff it out, put more protection back there and it still made marks in the paint. Took it in to my dealer and he said have our body shop sand it out again and fix it and then bring it back to them and they would try to fix it. They added some black rubber trim around the chrome tail portion and a black washer to hold the tail portion of the seat up some what. It still did it. That's one reason I fixed my chrome seat for comfort and use it most of the time. Only use my Corbin for trips and all day long riding. Sandy

That does look like a Corbin Gunfighter seat. That's what this one is one my bike, but my is the close version which puts you a bit lower to the ground and about 1 inch closer to the handlebars. Here's a pic of mine. Sandy
