Clearwater Darla Lights
« on: September 01, 2016, 08:54:50 PM »

So I ordered the Clearwater Darla's for my '15 CVOSG.  https://clearwaterlights.com/products/darla-harley-davidson?variant=9739669189
It's the fender mount so it creates the triangle effect for visibility but also put up to 2000 lumens each with a variable rheostat.  Even come with the stainless bezel.
What I'm struggling with is who to ask to install them correctly via the CANBUS system.  I'm here on Long Island and don't want to give this to my local dealer if I can avoid it.

Stripclub installed his own on his '15. I'm sure he'll chime in within a few days.

Clearwater actually uses a PWM dimmer, much more efficient than a Rheostat.
Lamp current is drawn directly from the battery with additional triggers from the horn and high beam but I personally don't know how these play with the HD CanBus. Two of our BMW's with CanBus had no problems with installation.  You'll love the lights. We have their 6000 lumen ea lights on three of our bikes. Great lighting system.

You must have the big Erica Lights by Clearwater.  They are big.  Wanted something a little smaller with some punch.
I just hope the black casing and mount isn't an eyesore on my scoot.  I did order the chrome bezel though.

Does anyone know how much of the bike needs to come apart?  Fairing?

Clearwater Darla Lights

Installed the Darla's on my 15 FTLRUSE. I mounted the to the the engine guard using the Harley Daymaker fog light mounts. The wiring is not bad, ran my power and ground to the battery, with a fuse at the battery, there are wires that run to both lights from the dimmer control, which I mounted into the right glove box, just because I wanted the switch hidden, and I tied on wire into the high been headlight circuit, that is the trigger wire that once you turn on the high beams, it automatically puts full output to the Darla's, and let me tell you at full output you can light up everything, brightest lights I have ever used. The wire I tied into the high been circuit is only a trigger wire, I actually cut the wire on the bike and soldered them all back together along with heat shrink tubing. That connection I made under the fairing close to the headlights. Been on there for over a year with no problems.

Pic of the mount I used, not the most attractive, but function is well worth it.

Pic of the dimmer control mounted in the right glove box.

After installing the Darla's I also now have the Custom Dynamics rings installed in the turn signals. I was going to install a switch for the Darla's so I could shut them off during the daytime hours, but then figured the more light, the more visible I am the the people driving in their cages.
Pic of the front during the day, they are still very visible.

Yes, have the Erica's, mounted in place of the passing lamps

The fairing does have to come off. If you're not comfortable soldering you can use the posi locks. ( have them on the adventure bike which sees a lot more rain, dirt with zero problems)  You should be able to lift the tank and run the Bat + and - under it unless stripclub has a better method

Are you talking about removing only the outer fairing, which I would assume?

I like the idea of mounting to the crash bar, but think the fork mount may be cleaner looking and may hide wiring a little better.  Does that make sense, or is it in my head?  I realize further apart is better for visibility.

I did run all my wires internal through the crash bar, so they are hidden. I drilled holes in the crash bar, installed rubber grommets and pulled the wire internally for that clean look. I am not crazy about the mounts, and wish I would have went with the chrome light option. I love the lights, and function is way more important to me, I ride many hours in the middle of the night. You will definitely be impressed with the performance.

Began the install of my Clearwater Darla Lights.  I like learning about my bike.  Took everything apart and mounted the lights.  Leaving the electrical wiring for a friend that does it for a living....

Photo's in this link...

Notice in fairing pic, the SiriusXM updated antenna.  It's good but not perfect.  Not sure I care enough to move it to the outside of the fairing.
