Sometimes even bad luck can be a little good
« on: October 17, 2016, 12:32:21 PM »

Wasn't sure where to post this as I didn't take any pics so it's a pretty sorry ride report. Rode up to the mountains near the house yesterday with my Kid and was enjoying it so much we let time slip up. Only bout 40 miles from home so no biggie....right? Taking one of our favorite ways home we hit Russell Gap Rd just at dark. Came thru OK, or so we thought. Bout 4 miles from home we stopped at a old abandoned barn we usually hit for relief. My Son says, "Man, I hit a pothole back there and my front end bottomed out hard". No holes on that road, we just rode it last week. Well I hit something hard!! It was dark and tire was up so lets get home. Last hard right, bout 1/4 mile from the house, his front tire lost air. Limped it on to the shed. How we made it 4 miles with a 10 minute stop is beyond me.............that's the little bit on good luck.

Good thing it didn't let go in a turn!  Wow, that was a major pot hole (or whatever it was), Jimmy.

We rode on Saturday and the roads around Maryville, TN are getting worse with bumps/cracks/expansion joints that have buckled to create a ridge and it is BAD to hit them hard.  Also, there are some bad (VERY BAD) spots on Pellissippi parkway where the bridge and asphalt come together....like hitting a wall at 65.

Glad it got you home and the good Lord was watching out for ya....

Yikes - I'd say Jimmy! That's quite a dent, can't believe the tire stayed up that long...

I hear that Greg. The worst part of it was the rim. I put it on in 2010 before my Kid took the scoot in 2013, when I admitted it was to much for my ole azz and went to a SERK. The 120 twisted spoke 21" wheel had, by far, more comments than the scooter itself. Sad  :love_1:

Damn, that's not a cheap rim.  Would've been even more expensive if it had dumped are (and then the bike) all at once.  So, in retrospect, that's a pretty cheap wheel afterall.    :2vrolijk_21:

Is that a tubeless tire?

Regardless, thankfully it didn't let go!

That is the biggest reason I'm not a fan of aftermarket rims...

If that is a steel wheel you may be able to beat if carefully back into place with the right type hammer. Maybe not perfect but close. And then see how it handles. :nixweiss:

Thanks Rooster, might have saved me $600. The chrome cracked a hairline, but you would have to be in inspection mode to find it. Used a brass dowel and a thick piece of rubber mat.......oh yea & a BFH. I love this site!!!!! :cucumber:

Terry's right, you can get it real close with some good hammer work. After that, a good wheelright, ought to be able to do the rest.
