Had someone recommend Evolution Industries 49 tooth sprocket and ring gear set for more low end torque rather than switching cams. Curious about this. Opinions?

Stock is 34/46, this would change the primary ratio to 34/49.  It's a similar idea to what many of us did on the older bikes, except we could do it by changing to a smaller crank sprocket instead of changing the clutch sprocket.  Since the smaller crank sprocket idea won't work with a late model primary, this would seem to be a good alternative that would be easier than changing the belt drive ratio, and have the added benefit of not altering your speedometer reading.  I'm not familiar with anyone actually using this product however.  It's a bit pricey until you realize the custom sized primary chain comes with the kit.

The head mechanic at Tilly HD in Statesville, NC suggested this idea when I asked about a cam change using Wood 999-6 cams. Said he's done this numerous times for more low end tq. Thing is, I'm at 131 tq now with 120 at 2500 rpm, so I'm not sure if I want to mess around with a good thing.

Just don't use their engine sprocket (without comp assembly). Tried that badddd vibrations, took it back out immediately. It had a 30t sprocket that was nice in town. Got real bad above 50mph. This was on my 07Seuc which has the highest factory gearing.

The dealer talked me into it when my stock comp assembly went bad and the first revision had just came out. I made them take it out and put in the HD one and it is still in there. Guess I have been lucky, crossed fingers. ::)

I have the Evolution basket and a Barnett +1 clutch setup.  They both work well behind a 113" with Don's heads at 10.6:1.  It does raise your RPMs some, not sure how much.  The basket and clutch have been in for quite a while.  I'm not sure with the added torque the additional gearing is really needed, but with that said, people run the Baker 7-speeds to get an additional gearing.

Haven't seen any pricing yet, but here are the primary ratios of the two methods compared to stock:

Stock Parts > 46/34 = 1.353 ratio
Evolution Kit >  49/34  =  1.441 ratio
Rivera Kit >  46/32 = 1.438 ratio

Round them off to two significant digits and both kits are a 1.44 ratio.  Should give the desired effect off the line, especially on heavier Touring models pulling trailers.  I would assume the Rivera kit will be priced much lower than the EVO kit.  It's just a shame that it took this long for someone to offer an alternative crank sprocket, after all those years of people trying to change the final drive ratio with belt and sprocket changes or those solid sprockets some people were selling.  This is much easier, less expensive, retains the compensator function and protection for the powertrain, and doesn't affect speedometer readings.

Changing the primary OR changing to the 30t final drive sprocket, will net you just about the same changes in ratio.

Is my math correct that in 6th gear at 70mph RPM will be increased by about 180 ?
