2015 CVO RGU saddlebag LED lights drained battery
« on: October 31, 2016, 08:42:20 AM »

Hello All,

On a ride out to Alamo Springs Cafe yesterday and after we finished our meal noticed the LED lights were on under the tour pak after locking the bike with the FOB. Went to start the battery and click click.

I thought I could jump start the bike by having a couple of guys push me down hill however, all the bike did was tire skidded.

Ended up getting a jump start from a cage and having to remove the seat, wouldn't jump start via the pig tail.

Question, should you be able to jump start the bike by having someone push you or is the compression to high?

Wondering why the little LED lights under the tour pack that light up the saddle bags stayed on.  When the bike is in the garage and I hit FOB unlock and the led light stays on, hit the lock and light goes out.

Is there a pdf version of the owners manual?

All I can find is the html owners manual on the HD site in the owners section.

I wanted to search for key FOB operation.

Thanks and ride safe!

On my limited the LED lights that shine into saddlebags stay on for a short time after locking bags. I know what you are saying about light should go out but it seems you may have a secondary problem. If only those LEDs stayed on, the bike should have easily started even after a number of hours.

I think my running lights were on as well, it was hard to tell in the sun.

Hopefully you were not trying to use low (1st) gear. If the battery still has enough power to run the ecu/fuel pump you can push start but you must (like a car) use 2nd or 3rd gear otherwise tire will just slide.
But if the battery is completely dead it will not push start at all. You must have power to supply signal to fuel/electric system.
But it would take several hours for the saddlebag LED's to run battery down, you must have additional problems somewhere. I know you can leave them on overnight and the bike still start because I did on my last bike when I was adding more lights to that system.

Rr,   it is very unlikely that only the LEDs stayed on. You may have a bad switch. Either the accessory switch stayed on or the ignition stayed on.  I've had my switches swapped out twice.

What gear were you in when you tried to push start? You should have been in the second or third.  It also helps if you have a big guy on the bike.

You don't need to remove the seat to jump start the bike. With a set of jumper cables, put the positive lead to your starter and a negative lead to ground. Ground can even be the clamps and bolts holding the exhaust system.

If you do a Google search, you may be able to find a pdf version of the owner's manual or the shop manual but not from HD.

Good luck!

Learned something new,  didn't relies it had to be 2 or 3 gear.

Bike sat for a year at the dealer will have the battery checked and starter contacts.

Thanks

I'd replace that battery!   :nervous:

Update; When I locked the bike with the key FOB lights stayed on.

After installing the Clearwater Darla', (pulled the main fuse and disconnected the neg battery terminal over a few days) now when I lock the bike via the FOB the lights go out after a minute like they should.

I am still going to have the dealer check the battery/system out (midtronics battery tester tested battery as good 400 CCA).

Thanks!
