What Is The Max Weight For The 2016 FLTRUSE Will Carry
« on: December 13, 2016, 10:42:40 PM »

What is the maximum weight according to the Owners Manual the 2016 FLTRUSE can safely carry; I believe operational / wet weight is 943 without rider passenger and filled bags.

GVWR:  617kg / 1360 lbs.  It's also listed on the frame on the left side down tube.

Just to add some clarity, here is the definition of GVWR:

The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), or gross vehicle mass (GVM) is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excluding that of any trailers.

That means that the weight for all the riders and any gear you take with you will be around 417 pounds.  I have exceeded this gross additional weight combination a number of times. Well, actually every time I put my leg over my motorcycle.   :nervous:  :nervous:

Thank you,
There is a 2016 FLTRUSE at my local dealer with 200 miles on it, they are looking for 23,225.00 out the door with my trade of a 2009 FLTRSE3 (12K for the trade) with 87K on it with a new motor rebuild and my extras. Just pondering the situation due to being 275 pounds and the holiday season upon us that weight is going up a bit and I intent to have a passenger should I bite on the FLTRUSE.

If I remember correctly, the tour pack is limited to 15 lbs.  I've never exceeded that..........on the inside.  I'm not sure of the weight limit on the luggage rack.  :P

This question reminds me of the picture of Terrie hauling all my new parts to Jim's for me.....   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg620123#msg620123

What is the wet weight of your 2009 and it's GVWR?  You might be surprised to find you've been overloading that one all this time, since no Harley I'm aware of has a very large capacity for people and gear.

Have you researched the trade and retail value for your 2009?  The latest figures I could find for my area are in the $15k to $17k range for trade-in, and $20k to $22k retail.  If the figures for your neck of the woods are similar, I think you have a lot more negotiating to do.  That leftover 2016 should carry a hefty discount from MSRP, as in $6k to $8k IMHO.

In my area that is about right on the pricing.  If you haven't negotiated yet they will come down more. You could also have them through extras in at no cost. I think with the trade-in having 87K miles that is hurting it's value.  Add-ons usually don't provide much when trading in.

I also agree that the weight limits are probably the same. I am about 210 and my wife is around 240. We have taken many trips with all of our stuff in the bags and on top of them.
The bike has had no issues with this. Even when I was younger we would go on two week trips and even had tank bags and still never had a issue. One time I did load a bike up with all the weight in the back. The front was a little light (HA).  I suspect there is no issue with the 2016 due to weight.

Good luck on your new bike (to be)!

They don't want to move any more on price, so I'm not sure I will on jumping on this FLTRUSE i still have 23 months of ESP with tire and wheel and a new motor in the the FLTRSE3, along with my shocks and seat. I agree, I want him to come down or offer more for the trade. The same dealership has a bike for sale with 64K 5 year old  CVO Ultra for 21999. Honestly, I would buy a blemish free bike with 87K a rebuilt motor with new engine cases with 4K on the rebuild, SE Cam Plate ( with 4,000 miles on it) all work done by Las Vegas Harley before I would buy a 64K, 32K motorcycle with a 110 motor if you know anything about the infamous 110 motor; because the shoe will drop on the 32K and 64K bikes before my 2009 FLTRSE3 which is why I will probably end up keeping it. But that's my logic.

Trade in on a used bike with over 80k gets a big hit as Harley cant sell extended warranty on them, if you are going to trade them in do it before 80k, just a FYI

32999. then 12000. for the bike, price out the door 23225.26.
12000. is the wholesale price, I know this bike isn't going to the wholesale auction, not in Las Vegas.

This same dealership offered a Warranty by Zurich not sure on the spelling, when they didn't know I was bike shopping or already had a warranty.

I'm 296 lbs and several times traveled with two suitcases and a backpack. i know i pushed the weight limit to the max several times, but it handles it well.

There is what's in the books and then there's a reality when it comes to trade-in value in retail value. With 87K miles the dealer can't even offer a warranty with the bike at sale.  Retail on a 2015 FLTRUSE is around 30,000 to 32,000. And the fact that there are 2016 models being sold for 33,000 doesn't help that use market at all. To me the offer of 12 K sounds pretty good  but you might be able to squeeze another one or 2K out of the deal.
