Handlebar question??
« on: January 01, 2017, 05:27:14 PM »

I have a 2016 CVO RGU and I'm looking at changing handlebars, I see quite often "will not fit CVO". I'm wondering what the reason is that the various bars won't fit?

The bars for the CVO Road Glide are not the same as the regular Road Glide or Road Glide Special. The cutouts in the bars are slightly different. That is why you don't see too many on the aftermarket. There are people who will make them for you, however

I've changed bars on a couple of my previous bikes, can you elaborate as to why they won't fit? Is this a "they will not fit, period" thing or is it a "they will fit but you have to do this" type of scenario? I'm just trying to make sense of it all... what is different?

I haven't changed the bars myself so I don't know exactly. I remember this discussion came up several  times when the 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra came out. You might want to look at those threads or use the search function.  As I recall, the pins which keep the bars from hitting the fairing are set differently and the wire cutouts are different from the standard RG.

depends on the year of your bike.  in my case (2013 fltrxse2), the reason why they say 'won't fit' is because the bars are not stepped down for the risers.  so if you do want to go with aftermarket bars, you have to either go with 1.25'' bars all the way through, or get a set of adapters from wild1 so the 1'' bars will fit the risers, or switch the bars and risers out.

The CVO Road Glide Ultra has a pin at the handle bar clamp.  The Rushmore road glide and road glide ultra have that pin, however they also have a pin for the hand controls on both sides.

So if the bars are not CVO specific, they will come with the hole for the controls pins, and those holes will be visible.

The CVO has a hydraulic clutch, and the Rushmore road glides did not from what I understand, until the M8.  The bar has to be built to accept the clutch.

Factory 47 makes a bar for the CVO Road glide ultra, you have to order it direct, or get a dealer to call an order it.  I had the 14" Factory 47's on my 15 CVO Road Glide ultra, they did not require any cable change.

Paul Yaffe also makes bars for the CVO Road Glide ultra, the 14" monkey bars will require a cable change, as they are taller than the factory 47.

When I got my 15 my tech suggested pulling the pins and rotating the bars up because changing to aftermarket bars was going to be a process. If you haven't yet, give it a go. You ,like myself, might find it comfortable.

the reason is the caps on front of levers have a pin that goes into the bars, if the bar is not drilled out for the caps you will have to drive the bars, hd says the reason behind that is that the front end is so light that if you change bars you may loose control at hi speeds (road glide only, because of frame mounted fairing)

The CVO Road Glide Ultra does not have those holes or pins.

That is why I was pointing out that the OP wants to make sure the bars are specific for the CVO.

Think about this, its the front end of the CVO Road glide Ultra than the Road Glide Ultra?

And I don't know for sure if this makes a difference, but the CVO's have heated grips whereas the non-CVO's don't.

I just ordered these: http://www.wild1inc.com/REAPER.html
I emailed the manufacturer and they assured me that these will fit my 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra. I'll let everyone know how they worked out once I receive them and get them installed.

I went with the yaffe 12" . Just so I didn't have to change cables.  They fit fine on the 16 cvo rg ultra.  And the heated grips went on fine.  They do have the alignment hole so I had to buy the chrome extended clamps.  Otherwise it was an easy job. . Stuart.

What I run on my 12 Roadglide, love them. Run Yaffee's on my Streetglide and they are very similar to each other

I for one would like a review with pictures if you can find the time.  I'd be interested to know how they feel and work out for you with your bike.  Will you be installing them?  Thanks in advance!

Have you posted pics of these, Stuart?  I would really like to see a 90 degree view from the side that gives me an idea of height and pullback, and also a view directly behind the bike showing width.  If you can manage that, it would be great!

After I receive them and get them installed I will post pictures and a review. I will not be doing the install myself as I am not confident with electrical wiring, plus my bike is still under warranty so I don't want to do anything to void it.
