Unusual problem
« on: January 19, 2017, 08:15:03 PM »

Ok I pulled the battery to have tested.  Re installed battery and now the darn thing won't start. It spins over but won't run.  How can the fuel pump go bad by just removing g and reinstalling g the battery.  I pulled the main fuse out before pulling battery.  I checked all the fuses and can't find any bad.  Called the dealer and they say sounds like fuel pump.  Can I test the plug under console on top of tank for power with multimeter.  I just don't understand how fuel pump just dies by pulling battery.  Anyways looking for some answers.  It started and ran fine before pulling battery.

If the fuel pump is bad, it wasn't caused by R & R of the battery, but it might have been on the edge of failing, and just by chance it went now.  Time for some actual troubleshooting instead of dealer's guess.

Is it possible you blew a fuse when pulling the battery or reinstalling?

I don't think you blew the master fuse or it wouldn't turn over but check some of the others it's very easy to blow fuses changing the battery a ground touching once you can take one out

Pulling the main fuse should not cause a fuel pump to suddenly fail.  If you listen closely when first turning on the ignition, can you hear the pump cycle for a few seconds?  If not, double check the fuse for the fuel pump.  Actually remove it and verify it has continuity.  It's not always easy to tell just by looking with the fuse still in the fuse box.

Did you disable the security system before you pulled the main fuse?  In other words, with the fob nearby, turn on the ignition and then pull the fuse?  If you didn't disable the security system first, that system may have the fuel pump disabled.  Try disabling the security system and removing the main fuse again, turn off the ignition, then reinstall the main fuse.  That might reset everything if it's a security system issue.

Yes I pulled the main fuse when I had it on. And the FOB was in tour pack.  I pulled all the fuses out and looked at them.  Didn't see any  with broken elements.  I can here the pump cycling when turn on.  It's something very simple probably.

Check the fuses again when my bike did the same thing it was one of the small fuses. I just don't remember which one. May have been the ignition switch one.   I believe it was 15 amp. Replaced and bike fired right up.

Ok will do that.  All the fuses are on left side of bike under cover.

If you hear the fuel pump going that is good. Is there any chance one of the wires connected to the battery either wasn't reconnected or maybe broke?  When something like this happens I also go back to what I touched.  I would check the positive and negative connections insure they are tight and make sure there isn't a loose or broken wire.
