It all depends on how you plan to use the bike.  Serious riders won't give up braking performance, and eliminating one of the front brakes makes a significant difference.  There is a good reason why they spend the extra money in production to install dual front brakes, otherwise they wouldn't do it and just add another tidy sum to their profit.  If on the other hand the bike is just for show, it doesn't need front brakes at all.

Let me try to understand this. You want to go from a 16 inch to a 23 inch wheel, effectively doubling the rotating mass of the front wheel. At the same time you want to cut your braking ability by 50%?  'Nuff said.

lots of bikes come with single discs,

lots of people convert for the "look",  i'm not saying i want to do it.

i'm swapping wheels, and the shop wanted to know if i wanted to convert to single.   i told them i didn't really plan on it.

thats why i'm asking opinions of folks that may have done it...

I wouldn't do it.   You've already got chrome floating discs, Brembo pads, sweet calipers with CVO emblems, braided lines and ABS...

I think the shop is just trying to generate revenue with a downgrade!

I'm thinking 800 lb bike, rider, passenger & gear + single disk = massive brake fade = big problems

lots of bikes come with single discs, Those bike's that do are probably a lot lighter than those that come w/duals

lots of people convert for the "look",  i'm not saying i want to do it. A lot of those that do are probably show bikes/bar hoppers... not seriously ridden.

i'm swapping wheels, and the shop wanted to know if i wanted to convert to single.   i told them i didn't really plan on it.

See red above for comments to your post, also I know of one member (there are probably others) that has gone to the big front wheel and maintained dual disc up front...

See this thread - Purchased a 2013 Atomic Orange this afternoon (With Pics) for more detail/pictures of the build of his bike.

The above member does show his bike but he also rides it... you may want to PM him (if he doesn't see this thread) for input.

I switched to single.... I ride a lot ... I freaking hate it lol.. I should have never gone to single even with upgrading to 6 piston pm caliper etc. I've lost a significant amount of stopping power. I'll be changing back to dual rotors in the future

If you really intend to "ride your bike" you definitely don't want to do that!
