Changing handlebars

How difficult is it to change out handlebars.  Thinking about some Factory 47's.  I've ever attempted this before.  Don't really want to pay dealer what they would want for labor.  Bike is a 2015 CVO  RG

It's tedious, and you'll need patience. If you don't have someone to help, you'll need to clamp them down somewhere or leave them on the bike if you can.

Clamp them down on bike or to a bench.  What for to fish wires thru.. Do the wires unplug or are they one piece.

How difficult depends on your experience level.  The '14 an latter CANBUS bikes are much easier than earlier years and there is only one Molex connection to disassemble on your bike.  I would not attempt without a service manual and four hands.  There are YouTube videos which help.

Factory 47, 14" will work on the 15 SERGU with stock wires and stock clutch and brake cable.  Thats what I had on mine.  Bars were very comfortable

I have the Malo 2 12" on my 07. Got them before they became factory47. They are quality bars. I did the swap myself. Get a manual or make good notes and pictures to help reassembly.
I've done several bars on different bikes up to 2012. Not that bad in my opinion. Don't rush, be careful, don't force the issue. Use a pull string to get wires thru the bars and use a little wire lube or furniture polish(pledge) to help them slide thru. Clamp bars to the bike in a easy angle to get the wires out and in, then position to your liking. Good luck.

I believe the Factory 47 site has a video showing exactly how to do this, and there are several threads on this forum that give you some pointers.

I put the factory 47  12" bars on my street glide. I believe the street glide is a different diameter from the road glide, should check factory 47 did not know, had dealer install, great quality and feel great

Well called 2 different dealers in my area.  One wants 4 hrs @ $110/ hr.  And other one said 2.5 hrs.  Watched some videos and doesn't look to bad.

I think those Factory 47 bars are around $550 for the RGU, give or take.  You're talking about a thousand dollar upgrade if you let a dealer do it. 

Me?  I'm hoping someone comes to Eureka Springs with a 15 RGU with 12's or 14's on it.  I want to sit on one and see how it feels before I shell out $550.  Sure, I love the look and the height options, but we're talking about going from a 31" wide stock bar to a 36" wide Factory 47 bar. 

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Factory 47 felt like they needed to make handlebars a yard wide.  While I'm sure this makes turning the bike easier, it moves each hand out 2.5" into the slipstream sideways, and also further up do to the handlebar height.  I just want gnarly looking pullbacks, but do you know how few a companies are out there that make them for our CVO?

I would love to have a set, but unless I can find a bar that looks like the 47 that's only an inch or two wider than stock, I'll keep the stock version.

I too, have watched the video a couple of times, and it looks like if you took your time, 4 hours would be sufficient to get 'er done.

I have run both the factory 47 14" my last road glide, the 15.  On my 09 and 12 CVO Road glides I had Yaffe Monkey bars, 14"

The Yaffe are about 2 to 2.5 taller than the factory 47, Yaffe run taller then 14 and Factory 47 run shorter.

Factory 47 are about 3 inches wider than the Yaffe.

Due to the little lower height of the factory 47 the width did not feel bad, was very comfortable.  I may have had an issue if they were as tall as the Yaffe.

I just finished installing Factory 47 12" on my 2016 CVO RGU and I ran the wires by myself with no vise and it was very frustrating and time consuming (2.5 hours) but also very tolerable. If  I had it to do over, probably take an hour tops. The removal and installation on the bike isn't even an issue.
Remove 2 screws, unplug 3 wire harnesses and everything is exposed, not even scary.
My 12", all the wires and cables got a little snug but not bad. I can't speak to 14" but they say it can be done.

Does anyone have the specs on the 14 inch Factory 47 bars,  Ive read general comments about how wide, but
how wide are they tip to tip, whats the rise (presuming 14) and pullback.  For $450 need to make sure that where I want it before buying.

A lot of these talk about no heated grips, are you guys running them with the heated grips
and does the Factory 47 harness connector take that into consideration or do you end up
with the stock wires working,  I have a 16 CVORGU

If I recall correctly on the Factory 47 site it can link you to a youtube video that gives measurements.  If that isn't what you need let me know and I can measure mine for you.

I installed mine about a month ago.

I have the heated grips.  There is no connector with the bars, if you get 14" or smaller you can use the stock wiring.

Had 12 inch Yaffe Monkey bars on my 2009 loved them made handling a dream.  Since I went to 3 wheels recently I added 10 inch LA Choppers bars 37 wide it's like added power steering to a trike.

G'Day Y'all,

I did something a little different with Lucille's bars. I ordered a custom set from BRs Custom Bars because I wanted my hands below my shoulders for long days and my wrists straight out from my arms. The stock bars are no doubt nice for shorter folks but they they were a PITA for me. I am only 6ft but I have Gibbon arms so they felt like the handles on a wheelbarrow and did not allow me to straighten my arms out fully. They were downright dangerous in carparks etc when on full lock because they would go straight up the sleeve of my jacket and catch.

A fully custom set of bars were not cheap as they cost me $580 to my door & I had them fitted at my dealer for around $300 at the same time I had some other items added. There was not much $ difference between the factory 47s and others that were available at that time, none of which were what I wanted.

The original wiring worked just fine. Measurements/details are:1 1/2" New Wave HD 2015RG 9"R 34"W 8"PB. I got exactly what I asked for, bars that worked for me. We have probably done 15k miles on them and are still happy.
