Junkyard Dog! Fullsac 113 259E DX dyno test!
« on: February 22, 2017, 08:30:38 PM »

A good friend of mine just picked up a bone stock 2012 CVO with only 4500 miles on it and was looking to upgrade on a very thin budget. I dug through my stash and came up with a variety of used stuff. A set 2.0 baffles, a used DX pipe. An old HPI 55 mm TB covered in dust. A used set of 259E cams and lifters from a 120ST motor. A used Aim lock up hat for the clutch. And last but not least, a set of genuine HD 4.060 pop up pistons new in the box. Tore it down, everything looked good. Sent the stock barrels off for a bore job. Bolted it all together and pushed it straight into the dyno room for a tune up with TTS. 10 tuning pulls total and called it good. (That's all you get for a case of Coors light). 100 ft pounds at 2200. 119 HP and 125 peak TQ. Not too bad for odds and ends laying around the shop and quickie dyno session.

I wouldn't complain about that even if it was a planned/blueprinted build. Very nice!

the HPI 55 was a good find

That was a modified stocker I sent to HPI at least 7 years ago. If I remember correctly it was 250.00 for the mods to your TB.
Didn't think about it at the time, but with stock heads that was most likely a better choice than a SE 58 as it matched the intake port openings perfectly. A SE 58 has a larger opening at the port that matches the CNC SE heads, MVA ect. I see lots of guys bolting 58s on stock heads with out matching the port openings. May not hurt the peak numbers much, but it can't be ideal for low speed port velocity having the air crash into that sharp edge. I need to go to the HPI website and get current on their latest offerings for modding stock TBs. Making 119 HP with a 250 dollar TB isn't too shabby.

Any body else have one of there modded stockers on something running strong?

Steve,

I inquired with HPI inside of six months re: having a OE TB worked, was told they no longer are doing mods to an OE  :-\

I just checked their website. They have their own casting that takes stock electronics and can go way past 58mm. You still are required to send in your stocker
for the FBW parts. Very pricey now too.

Steve, you may want to ditch the lifters from that 120", they have a reputation for failure. Hate to see your fine work destroyed.

The owner is a good friend, I explained it, wasn't in the budget. He won't ride it 10Kmiles in the next 5 years if by chance he even kept it that long.

TR port matched my stock TB back when i did my 13, it was good for 120 hp...put a 58 SE on it and got 4 more hp & 3 tq out of it, probly better to have left the modded stock on it for the money  :nixweiss:
